Fallout season 2 was subsequently confirmed to be in development.
After some early reports suggested that filming would be starting in fall or winter 2024, Goggins now takes to Instagram to share a new image of himself in the makeup chair for Fallout season 2 as his Ghoul prosthetics are applied. Though the image doesn't provide any hints of the story to come in season 2, it does confirm that production on the show's sophomore outing is now underway. Check out Goggins' post below:
"Back in the saddle," Goggins writes in his caption, accompanying the hashtag "#Deux," or "two." He continues: "Gatdamn it feels good to slip on this skin. I do this sh-t for the love of the Game."
What Goggins' Fallout Season 2 Filming Update Means For The Show's Release Timeline
When To Expect The Prime Video Show To Return
Though shows in the past would regularly release a new season every year, this age of TV is now largely over as productions become larger and more costly, and stars' schedules become more complex to manage. The fact that season 2 is entering production about eight months after season 1 was released would, for a less effects-heavy show, suggest that the sophomore outing will drop in late 2025. The filming timeline for season 1, however, suggests a 2026 release window is more likely.

The Truth About Vault-Tec’s Bombs In Fallout Season 1 Completely Changes The Ghoul’s Season 2 Mission
The Fallout show raised new questions about the beginning of the apocalypse, and the truth behind it will define the Ghoul's future story.
Fallout season 1, which earned glowing reviews from critics, began production in July 2022. The show didn't actually premiere until April 2024. Though it's possible that the SAG-AFTRA strike caused delays due to actors having to record ADR, a common part of the post-production process, it's clear that the vast, post-apocalyptic world of Fallout takes a long time to bring to life. Following this same schedule, season 2 could be looking at a release date of August or September 2026.
Our Take On Goggins' Fallout Season 2 Post
Season 2 Will Be Worth The Wait
The Fallout game franchise features a number of different installments, all with different stories, characters, and evolutions of the same general setting. It wasn't immediately clear how Wagner and Robertson-Dworet were going to translate the world of the games into a show, but they clearly succeeded. Fallout captured the world of the games in a fun and engaging way, and Goggins' Ghoul, aka Cooper Howard, was a major series highlight.
Fallout has a 94% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes.
It's disappointing that season 2 is probably still well over a year away from coming to Prime Video, but season 1 and the exciting Fallout season 1 finale certainly suggest that the sophomore outing will be worth the wait. It's likely Goggins, Purnell, and other stars will post behind-the-scenes looks at Fallout season 2 as production continues, which should hopefully make the wait less painful.
