The Fallout Show's Cast & Characters Explained

Who Else Stars In The Video Game Adaptation?

The Fallout show's cast is led by the trio of Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins – each of whom represents a major faction from the Fallout games. Ella Ella Purnell, known for her roles in Yellowjackets and Army of the Dead, plays the primary protagonist, a young Vault Dweller named Lucy MacLean. Aaron Moten plays a member of the Brotherhood of Steel named Maximus, who has been pictured in Power Armor in much of the promotional material.

Amazon Prime's Fallout has already shown audiences glimpses of the Brotherhood of Steel. However, there's a lot of crucial information on the faction.

Walton Goggins, an Emmy-nominated actor known for Justified and The Righteous Gemstones, plays a gunslinging Ghoul who, before he was mutated by nuclear radiation, was a charismatic Hollywood actor named Cooper Howard. Goggins' Ghoul differs drastically from the zombie-like creatures seen in the video games. Outside the main cast, there are several recognizable stars like Kyle MacLachlan, known for playing Paul Atreides in David Lynch's Dune and Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks. In Fallout, MacLachlan plays Hank MacLean, Lucy's father and the Overseer of Vault 33.

Also known for his role as Benjamin Linus in Lost, Michael Emerson stars in the Fallout show as Wilzig, an enigmatic wanderer who aids Lucy as she ventures out of Vault 33 and into the post-apocalyptic wasteland for the first time. Beyond what will be seen on screen, Emerson's involvement in the Fallout show represents a heartfelt reunion with Nolan following their successful stint on Person of Interest. With a main cast led by Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins, Emerson's role as Wilzig should help add depth to the post-apocalyptic story.

Other cast and characters include Moisés Arias as Lucy's brother, Norm MacLean, who also resides in Vault 33, but seemingly won't be ing her on her journey. Other residents of Vault 33 include Dave as Chet and Annabel O'Hagan as Steph, who is pregnant. Johnny Pemberton plays Thaddeus who, like Maximus, is a member of the Brotherhood of Steel.

What To Expect From The Fallout Show's Story

Lucy Embarks On A Journey

Just like the video games, the Fallout show is set in a post-apocalyptic world after a nuclear war wipes out civilization in 2077. In this alternate history, advancements in nuclear technology post-World War II resulted in the development of a retrofuturistic society and a subsequent struggle for resources. The survivors seek safety in fallout shelters called Vaults, designed to protect humanity in case of nuclear destruction.

While it adopts its setting from the games, the Fallout show has created an entirely new storyline. Set around the vicinity of Vault 33 in Los Angeles, 219 years after the nuclear devastation, the show centers on a survivor named Lucy, who leaves her home and embarks on a harrowing journey. In addition to showing how closely the show adheres to the video games' visual style, the Fallout trailer depicts Lucy as a naive vault-dweller who decides to venture into the Wasteland and discovers a terrifying world full of monsters and mayhem.

Goggins' gunslinging Ghoul also has a prominent role in the trailers, showcasing how drastically he deviates from his video game counterparts. The trailer also reveals clearer looks at the Brotherhood of Steel characters, Maximus and Thaddeus, and hints at their conflict. Overall, the Fallout show seamlessly blends the iconic post-apocalyptic setting from the video games with an entirely new storyline, promising an immersive journey through the wasteland filled with new characters and intriguing conflicts.

Fallout premieres April 11 on Prime Video.
