The Family Chantel stars Pedro and Chantel Jimeno stirred up a lot of drama on 90 Day Fiancé, but it’s nothing compared to the turmoil that both of their family , including Lidia Jimeno, have caused. The feud between the Everetts and the Jimenos continued in their spin-off series, and a lot of fans loved watching Chantel’s mom, Karen Everett. However, viewers definitely don't have an equal appreciation for Pedro’s mother, Lidia. From picking on Chantel, to taking advantage of Pedro’s marriage to get more money (Karen memorably accused Pedro of trying to "harvest the American dollar" on TFC), Lidia has done it all. In general, fans don't like her personality.
Lidia is a Dominican Republic native, who first appeared on 90 Day Fiancé season 4. She tried everything in her power to complicate things between Pedro and Chantel. Lidia never had a healthy relationship with Chantel, as the older woman was always hostile towards Pedro's partner. Viewers even called her one of the worst mothers-in-law in reality TV history. However, the circumstances between Lidia and her daughter-in-law Chantel were destined to get worse in The Family Chantel.
Lidia has been accused of destroying Pedro's romance, as well as a relationship that her daughter Nicole Jimeno was involved in, by interfering. In Chantel and Pedro’s case, Lidia constantly pitted Pedro against Chantel, and bouthed the younger woman whenever she could. She always tried to convince Pedro to divorce Chantel. Another issue was that Nicole left his partner Alejandro because her mother Lidia didn’t approve of him. “She doesn't want her kids to rely on or connect to anyone but her to keep her toxic hold and influence over them. It seems like she wants to control her children. Certain viewers believe that Lidia tries to brainwash her kids, by telling them how much she suffered in the past. She acknowledged the fact that she dated a married man, and had two children with him. However, she never tried to talk to Pedro and Nicole about their father in a mature way. Instead, she characterized her son and daughter as mistakes. Some people think she uses her kids.
When Pedro tried to mend his relationship with his father, and his extended family, Lidia didn’t him. Instead, she warned him, by saying that he was doing the wrong thing. Lidia's critics believe that she treats her son like a stream of income, always taking advantage of Pedro, and being too dependent on him. When he started making good money, Lidia bragged about his income on the show, saying, "I am happy that Pedro now has another job where he is more respected and earns more. So Pedro can buy me a house in the U.S.A."
Fans think that Pedro and Nicole are unfortunate because Lidia is their mom. She might have had a difficult past, but the way that she is behaving with her kids right now upsets viewers. It seems like Lidia used Pedro’s marriage to get a Green Card, because he wanted to become an American citizen. Lidia is often called out for being all about fame and material things. Fans don't seem to tolerate Lidia on The Family Chantel, and most believe that she is a bad person.
