Resident Evil 7 is already a haunting run from beginning to end, with some abominable characters, grotesque environment, and a horrifying story. So what better way to make it even more terrifying than switching out the horrendous family from the game with an equally horrendous family, the Griffins.
This mod turns the Baker family, who are the antagonists of Resident Evil 7, along with some other paranormal enemies into the characters from the hit TV show, CapCom's best selling games and also one of it's scariest.
Taking the realistic visuals and putting the cartoon-like characters from Family Guy in their place may sound like the coward's way out, but ToastedShoes' video shows it is terrifying to see a dead-eyed Peter Griffin coming towards the player with an axe in hand. The stylistic mismatch and large size of the Family Guy character models trigger the uncanny valley effect, and these comedic characters trying to hack away at the player is genuinely more frightening than any jump scare. Meg plays Mia, who has been abducted by the family and swings violently between trying to stab her husband and pleading for help from him. This works better than most might have expected, as the Baker family treat her just about the same as the Griffins do, and nothing would please Meg more than to kill off her family and make a break for it.
Other swapped characters work really well too, with different clips of voice from Family Guy coming out of the character's mouths at just the right time to create a perfect moment. The disgusting Molded from Resident Evil 7 have been turned into Quagmire, who is already pretty monstrous in the show, and his catchphrase can be heard ringing through the house as Quagmires pull themselves out of gooey walls shouting "giggity giggity" as they pursue the player. Even Joe Swanson gets an appearance with some amazingly well done dialogue used in place of the police officer character's lines.
Resident Evil 7 might have some of the most powerful and aberrant villains in the series, but there's no question that the Griffins fit remarkably well in place of the Bakers, with many comments on the video saying that this hellish nightmare would tie into a Family Guy episode. This mod is a whole lot of fun to play and watch, and it doesn't require much suspension of disbelief to imagine Peter locking Meg up in a cell, anyway.
