Seth MacFarlane's raunchy animated sitcom Family Guy has become a TV institution, and the beloved Fox series is already renewed for season 23. Debuting in 1999, Family Guy follows the wacky adventures of the Griffins, an average family who live in the fictional town of Quahog, Rhode Island. Noted for its distinctly politically incorrect humor, Family Guy follows in the footsteps of its predecessors like The Simpsons, by spoofing the American nuclear family and all of the trappings of modern life. However, Family Guy sets itself apart by never straying away from hot-button topics.

Though Family Guy was briefly canceled after season 3, the series was revived a few years later and has continued for more than 20 years as an unstoppable TV juggernaut. Never particularly popular with critics, the show has had some minor success on the awards circuit and has snagged a few Emmys along the way. Much like its contemporaries South Park and The Simpsons, Family Guy may be in its twilight years, but its place as a genuine staple of Aughts popular culture is undeniable. Even if it has fallen off a bit, Family Guy isn't stopping anytime soon.

When Family Guy didn't return as part of Fox's fall slate in late 2024, it seemed as if the long-running animated sitcom had finally reached the end of the road. This was not the case, however, and the cartoon was merely pushed to midseason for the first time in its lengthy run. Now, Fox has scheduled Family Guy season 23 to debut on Sunday, February 16, 2025, where it will take over the 8pm EST slot currently held by The Simpsons. This announcement comes after a duo of holiday specials which came out on Hulu in late 2024.

Family Guy season 22 concluded on April 17, 2024.

Family Guy Season 23 Cast

Expect The Griffin Family To Return

The main cast of Family Guy hasn't changed much since the show began airing in 1999, and the ensemble for season 23 will probably be the same as season 22. One guaranteed return is Seth MacFarlane as Peter, Stewie, Brian, and Glenn Quagmire, and a season of Family Guy without its creator wouldn't be the same.

Likewise, the rest of the voice cast will be unchanged, including the likes of Alex Borstein, Mila Kunis, and Seth Green in the various roles they've played for more than 20 years. Family Guy's various cameos are much harder to predict, but fans can expect to hear a few celebrity guest voices in season 23. Twisters star Glen Powell appeared as pumpkin champion Patrick McLuskey in the Halloween special, "Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Cheater."

Lacey Chabert voiced the role of Meg Griffin during the show's first season.

Predicting the exact plots of Family Guy episodes is impossible since the show has always thrived on making jokes that come out of left field. Even after two decades on the air, the show continues to shock and surprise viewers with raunchy humor and there's no reason to think that won't happen in season 23 as well. Season 22 poked fun at topical pop culture moments like Dune, and there have been plenty in the last few years that could easily be skewered by MacFarlane and the writers. Whatever happens in Family Guy season 23, expect the show to push the envelope.

Even though season 23 of Family Guy was pushed until mid-season, a lengthy trailer has been release which reveals a few of the choicest bits from the episodes. The six-minute teaser was dropped during 2024's San Diego Comic-Con and features a lengthy parody of Top Gun as well as a politically charged jab at the United States Supreme Court. Peppered throughout the teaser are various short and hilarious moments, though little is actually revealed regarding the plot details for season 23.
