The daring and open-minded Aquarius will always gravitate toward a good fantasy film. The more logical the better, because the air sign likes to be fully immersed in the film they're experiencing without its fantasy elements not making sense. Aquarians are realists, but their fantasy films don't need to be gritty, they just can't be full of mindless characters on a boring adventure.
Give an Aquarius a motley crew of adventurers on an epic quest, a wizard's underdog apprentice to root for, or an underestimated knight who proves their valor by remaining true to themselves, and they'll be happy.
WILL LOVE: MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL
Maleficent may have been strictly the "Mistress of Evil" in the animated Sleeping Beauty, but in the live-action retelling of the fable she was given a great deal more character development and emotional complexity.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will appeal to Aquarians because of the spectacular world-building and message of accepting differences. While Maleficent does get to meet more of her kind, the Dark Fae, she remains socially aloof. The air sign is often interested in bringing like-minded people together, but remains a lone wolf even in a social setting.
WILL HATE: ALICE IN WONDERLAND
Aquarians are not generally followers to the whimsies of life - they prefer to set off on their own adventures. Therefore the thought of Alice falling down a rabbit hole to elicit an adventure doesn't appeal to them.
While an Aquarius could appreciate the imagination that went into the film, they wouldn't like the convoluted narrative and the dizzying number of new characters constantly being introduced.
WILL LOVE: LABYRINTH
With its quirky and strong central heroine, fanciful visuals by the Jim Henson company, and the unforgettable performance by a festooned David Bowie as the Goblin King, Labyrinth represents exactly the sort of fantasy film an Aquarian would love.
At the heart of Sarah's journey through the Goblin King's maze is a message about letting go of the immaturity of childhood, while also acknowledging it's important to be young at heart into adulthood. Sarah does some growing up, but never forgets who she is.
WILL HATE: OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL
Aquarians might have liked The Wizard of Oz, but Oz The Great And Powerful focuses on all the wrong messages for an Aquarius. Instead of being an ensemble piece about friends helping one another, it's about one man's selfish journey to half-baked redemption.
This origin story for the Wizard of Oz is visually impressive, but its central character Oz (James Franco) is a charlatan who never manages to learn how to be a good person even after he becomes partially responsible for creating the Wicked Witch of the West (Mila Kunis).
WILL LOVE: PAN'S LABYRINTH
Guillermo Del Toro's mixture of fairytale fantasy and graphic horror are perfectly showcased in Pan's Labyrinth, about a little girl who uses her imagination to escape horrible brutalities during WWII.
Aquarians like anything that defies convention, and Del Toro's film manages to be both sentimental and the fuel of nightmares. They will love the fantasy world he's created but be delightfully terrified by the grotesque creatures in it.
WILL HATE: WARCRAFT
Based on the popular MMORPG of the same name, Warcraft the movie should have dived deep into the sort of pseudo-historical lore that the IP is known for. Instead, it's glossy and loud and provides nothing of substance for air signs to get caught up in.
The film can't help but be compared to similar films like Lord of the Rings, but featuring wizards and orcs is where the similarities end. There's almost a message about tolerance and inclusiveness between the humans and orcs, but the film shies away from such thought provoking character development.
WILL LOVE: WILLOW
Willow is the sort of magical adventure that will sweep up an air sign and have them casting spells in their kitchen. Based on a story by George Lucas, it follows a sorcerer's apprentice named Willow who must take charge of an infant who may bring peace to warring lands.
Aquarians love it when people from all different backgrounds come together for a common cause. The halfling Willow, the human swordsman Martigan, the brownies, and even the sorceress's villainous daughter come together to keep the baby safe from harm.
WILL HATE: VAN HELSING
Aquarians love genre mash ups, especially of two subgenres like horror and fantasy. Van Helsing seemed promising, especially since it was directed by Stephen Sommers, but for a film about vampires it had no bite.
The film couldn't decide whether it wanted to be an action film, a comedy, or a slasher flick. Unlike Sommers' excellent The Mummy, this film just couldn't find how to find the right balance.
WILL LOVE: DRAGONHEART
Dragonheart was one of the first films to have an entirely CGI character take up a significant amount of screen time, and it remains groundbreaking to this day, which will catch the interest of any Aquarius.
It's not all flashy special effects when it comes to the story of the last dragon, Draco, and his fiery relationship with the cynical knight Sir Bowen. The film has character development, humor, and a touching message, not to mention a very recognizable soundtrack.
WILL HATE: THE BROTHERS GRIMM
All of the stars in The Brothers Grimm deserved to be in a much better fantasy vehicle than the slapdash film they were in. Instead of being a joyous romp, the film ends up sagging under the weight of its gaudy special effects and its meandering plot.
Aquarians looking for something uplifting and magical will find a dour film that exudes neither gothic majesty nor creative ingenuity. Plus, something unfortunate happens to a kitten.
