Bad Boys movies, on the action movie Fast and Loose. The feature which was written by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson, is set to be something of a cross between The Bourne Identity and The Hangover, following a man with amnesia waking up in Tijuana and attempting to disentangle his double lives as a CIA agent and a kingpin.
The Hollywood Reporter recently interviewed Michael Bay ahead of the SXSW premiere of his parkour documentary We Are Storror. During their conversation, when asked what's coming next, the filmmaker itted that he is not exactly sure, because "there's so much." While he specifically mentioned Fast and Loose, he said that "until it's going, it's not going," indicating that there has not been much progress on the project since it was originally announced. Read his full quote below:
There’s so much. I don’t know. There’s this Netflix thing with Will Smith [Fast and Loose, about a crime boss who loses his memory]. But until it’s going, it’s not going. As Jerry Bruckheimer says, “It’s like you got to roll the rock up the hill, and then you got to roll another rock up the hill, and then you got to will it into production.”
What This Means For Fast And Loose
The Movie Will Probably Still Happen
Considering the fact that the Will Smith movie was the first project that came to mind when Michael Bay was asked about movies, it seems likely that Fast and Loose is still in some way a priority, even if pre-production is experiencing some delays. However, Bay's busy schedule as both a director and producer could mean that it will be quite a while before it comes to fruition. His attention may be pulled in too many directions, especially given his producing work on titles like the next Transformers movie.
Bay is also attached as a producer to projects that are in various stages of development, including an English-language remake of The Raid and the Mark Greaney adaptation Armored.
Will Smith has just as many irons in the fire that may prevent him from starring in the Michael Bay movie in the near future. This includes starring in the post-apocalyptic sequel I Am Legend 2 and the Sony science fiction thriller Resistor. He is also attached to many projects as a producer, both for titles in which he will star and for others such as the thriller Listen, which stars The Recruit and To All the Boys I've Loved Before's Noah Centineo.
Our Take On The Fast And Loose Update
It Could Still Be Bay's Next Movie
While Michael Bay himself is unsure about how quickly Fast and Loose will make it to the screen, precedent shows that it could potentially be sooner than later, in spite of its delays. The director's career has seen him helm a narrative movie at least once every two to three years, so he is due for another feature after 2022's Ambulance. The Netflix movie is the title he is attached to that has the strongest chance of being mounted, considering the fact that the other title is the long-gestating Robopocalypse, which seems to be in production hell.
