While the Fast & Furious 11 will wrap up the stories of Dom Toretto and his family. That said, there have been enough teases for audiences to at least theorize what will Fast & Furious 10 be about.
After a set picture suggested that Dom’s old charger from Fast and Furious dealing with time travel gain some track. Although time travel might be too much even for Fast and Furious, it seems like the Fast & Furious 10 cast is playing with the idea of going back in time. Ludacris, who plays Tej in Fast and Furious, revealed in an Instagram stories that Tej will appear with his 2 Fast 2 Furious look at some point in Fast X. The caption chosen by Ludacris, “History repeats itself #FastX”, further fuels the time travel theories.
What Is Going On With Fast X’s Past Fast & Furious Films Tease?
Between Dom Toretto’s The Fast and the Furious car and Tej’s 2 Fast 2 Furious look, Fast X will likely revisit past Fast and Furious films in some form. That said, a few callbacks to the F9 delivered on the “Fast and Furious goes to space” theories, but time travel is a different story. The most likely explanation for Fast X’s past Fast & Furious films tease is that the movie will flashback to key moments in the saga’s history. For example, Tej and Roman first met in 2 Fast 2 Furious.
Fast X’s Potential Flashbacks Can Revisit Fast & Furious’ History
As the second to last Fast and Furious movie, it would make sense for Fast X to revisit pivotal moments from the franchise through flashbacks. As a comparison, the MCU's first decade of movies, used its sci-fi setting to revisit the Avengers' history with the help of time travel. Fast & Furious 10 can accomplish a similar thing with no need for time travel – the flashbacks would be enough. Obviously, having new scenes set during the events of the old Fast and Furious movies could retcon the way audiences perceive those films, which is not necessarily a bad thing. F9's Dom Toretto retcons may have been divisive, but if done right, flashbacks can add more context and nuance to key Fast and Furious moments.
More than two decades after Dom and Brian met in The Fast and the Furious (2001), the Fast and Furious franchise's legacy is way too big to be revisited in just one movie. Still, having flashbacks in Fast X and perhaps in Fast & Furious 11 can solidify the films as a true finale – which is something Fast and Furious asks for. After many promises by Dominic Toretto of “one last ride”, Fast and Furious’ actual final films need to feel like a celebration of the saga, and that is something Fast X’s potential flashbacks can help achieve.
