The all-female Hobbs & Shaw proved that spinoffs proved they can work. One idea that has been widely discussed is an all-female Fast & Furious spinoff, which could give the franchise a breath of fresh air once the Fast Saga comes to an end.
Fast X will raise the stakes before Fast & Furious 11 culminates the Fast Saga, and it will do it with the help of two major new players: Jason Momoa and Brie Larson. While both are sure to provide their action-movie chops to the end of the franchise, Brie Larson's Fast X character, "Tess", could be key to its future. Universal Pictures' Chairwoman Donna Langley recently reinforced the idea of an all female Fast & Furious spinoff, saying that she "would love a female Fast" (via Insider), so adding a big name like Larson only increases the chances of that concept coming to life.
Brie Larson Already Proved She Could Lead A Major Franchise Movie
Although Brie Larson had a lengthy career before her MCU role, it was in 2019 with Captain Marvel — four years after her Academy Award-winning performance in Room — that she established herself as a franchise-leading actor. Captain Marvel was the first female-led MCU movie, and Brie Larson not only had to portray one of Marvel's most powerful heroes, but also find a place for Carol Danvers in an already packed male-led franchise. After Captain Marvel's commercial success, Brie Larson's Carol Danvers ed Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Endgame, and will now star in the all-female MCU team-up The Marvels, where Captain Marvel is expected to lead a trio of female superheroes. This is the perfect precedent for Brie Larson's Tess in the Fast & Furious franchise, where she could achieve the same as Carol Danvers following a very similar sequence of events.
Who Else Could Be In The Female Fast & Furious Spinoff
Apart from Brie Larson's Tess, whose allegiances and motivations are yet to be revealed, there are various female Fast & Furious characters who could an all-female spinoff. For instance, Jordana Brewster's Mia Toretto and Michelle Rodriguez' Letty Ortiz have been secondary characters since the beginning, and it's time they get a bigger role where their skills can shine. Nathalie Emmanuel's Ramsey, who's bound to have a bigger role in Fast X, can also provide her hacking talents in a spinoff movie. On the villains' side, Cipher actor Charlize Theron has expressed her interest in a female-led spinoff, with the only condition being that Dame Helen Mirren, who plays Deckard Shaw's mother Magdalene Shaw, must be in it. And with Magdalene Shaw involved, Vanessa Kirby's Hattie Shaw would be a logical addition. On top of these established characters, Cardi B's Leysa and Anna Sawai's Elle are two recently introduced characters who could have bigger roles in a Fast & Furious spinoff.
Of course, the cast of the all-female Fast & Furious spinoff, depending on who survives the Fast Saga's last two installments. But given that Letty already came back from the dead, Mia settled down with her family, Ramsey will play a bigger role, and the major female villains seem to be out of danger in Fast X, a female character death is unlikely to happen. On the contrary, Han Lue's the return of Gal Gadot's Gisele Yahar, and the final two Fast & Furious movies could add new female characters besides Brie Larson's Tess. Whatever these last two installments do, the all-female Fast & Furious spinoff will continue to take shape in the near future.
