Diehard Fast & Furious fans were forced to wait extra long for the ninth installment. Following The Fate of the Furious in 2017, F9 was originally scheduled to debut in 2019 before being pushed because of Hobbs & Shaw. Other delays, primarily stemming from COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns, altered the release another four times before Universal Studios settled on the June 2021 premiere. Though the public had to remain patient, the cast and crew provided insight into the future of the series, including a definite endpoint.

While many predicted The Fast Saga would end with a milestone tenth installment, Diesel confirmed the story would end with a two-part finale. The plan will thrust the franchise beyond the 20th anniversary mark by featuring most of the core cast. That said, the franchise is also looking to branch off in other areas with a handful of other projects in the works.

Fast & Furious 10

The untitled Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), and Tej Parker (Ludacris). Based on the timetable of previous installments, 2023 is most likely the target release date.

Fast & Furious 11

Following production of Fast & Furious 10, Lin and returning cast will move right into the eleventh and final entry in The Fast Saga, shooting the installments back-to-back. Diesel has shared (via Fast & Furious 11 nears the production stages.

Hobbs & Shaw 2

Based on Hobbs & Shaw’s success, it was a no-brainer for Universal to greenlight a sequel. Though there’s still a chance Hobbs & Shaw 2. The frenemies work well together, and they proved they are highly capable of taking down criminal organizations. There’s no word yet on a director or the story direction, but Chris Morgan is expected to develop the script featuring a handful of new characters to appear alongside Hobbs and Shaw.

Female-Led Fast & Furious Spinoff

Whereas Hobbs & Shaw’s sequel has been officially confirmed ahead of F9, the untitled female spinoff still falls under the rumor category. Though there hasn't been an official announcement just yet, the Fast & Furious cast wants a female spinoff. Diesel has also commented on the project, claiming a script was being written for a movie featuring the powerful women in the saga. While Letty and Jordana Brewster’s Mia are two vital characters, the movie could also incorporate Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel), Hattie (Vanessa Kirby), Magdalene (Helen Mirren), Madame M (Eiza González), and Cipher (Charlize Theron). With an endgame on the horizon for the main story, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Universal fast track more spinoffs to keep the Fast & Furious franchise alive.
