Summary

  • Fast & Furious sequels are harming the series' perfect ending, with Fast X ending on a cliffhanger and leaving the fate of Dom and his son unknown until Fast & Furious 11.
  • The franchise's longevity is being prolonged as more movies, including a Hobbs spinoff, are announced, diluting the perfect ending achieved by Fast & Furious in 2011.
  • Fast Five's ending was the ideal conclusion, providing narrative closure and happy endings for the beloved characters, but its impact is diminishing with each new release.

A handful of Fast X's ending, Dom and his son are stuck at the bottom of a dam rigged with explosives, with their fates being left unknown until Fast & Furious 11. Following the cliffhanger, Gisele returns after emerging from a submarine and Luke Hobbs is threatened by Dante Reyes, confirming the franchise has no shortage of stories to continue.

Fast X was initially positioned to lead into Fast and Furious 11, which has been long anticipated as the franchise's grand finale. However, following the release of Fast X, Diesel suggested that the 11th movie won't be the last film in main series, and there has also been an additional spinoff officially announced. If all the rumors of other movies turn out to be true, there'll be way more follow-ups than just the teased Fast & Furious 12 and confirmed spinoff. Despite such an optimistic longevity for the franchise, numerous new movie announcements are further diluting the perfect ending the Fast & Furious franchise already achieved in 2011.

Vin Diesel looking serious as Dom in Fast X.

Following the release of Fast X and the positive reception to Dwayne Johnson's return as Hobbs, a new Hobbs solo movie was officially announced by Johnson. This came as a huge surprise given that Johnson vowed that he was done with the franchise in 2021 (via Fast X could be the first of a three-part conclusion. Diesel commented:

Without giving away too much, I can say this, going into making this movie, the studio had asked if this could be a two-parter and after the studio saw this Part One, they said, 'Could you make Fast X: The Finale a trilogy?'

Fast Five’s Ending Was The Perfect Fast & Furious Conclusion

Everyone Gets A Happy Ending In Fast Five

Brian and Dom grin at the vault full of money in Fast Five

Fast Five serves not just as a thrilling chapter in the Fast & Furious saga but as a masterful culmination for the franchise's beloved characters. Fast Five's ending epitomizes the ideal conclusion by striking a delicate balance between high-octane action and satisfying narrative closure for its ensemble cast. What truly distinguishes Fast Five's finale is the return of familiar faces, allowing for a collective curtain call. Dom, ever the gravitational center, gets his freedom (or at least a 24-hour headstart) and a chance at a peaceful life with Letty. Brian O'Conner and Mia are expecting their first child, signaling a new beginning and a shift away from the adrenaline-fueled lifestyle.

Tej Parker and Roman Pearce's ending highlights that they've achieved their dreams while not losing their hilarious competitive nature, too. The end of Fast Five is a heartfelt send-off for everyone, showing each character embarking on their new paths, a gesture that provides fans with a sense of closure and contentment. Most impressively, the film even gives Han a happy ending, as he drives off into the sunset with Gisele. Audiences aware of the Fast & Furious chronology know his fate is ultimately tragic, but this moment still gives viewers hope. Fast Five's ending is the perfect conclusion, but its impact is increasingly diluted with each consecutive release.
