Warning: Spoilers for Fast X Below!Fast X introduces Alan Ritchson's Aimes into the Fast Saga, and flashbacks show how long he has been a part of the story. In Fast X, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) finds himself and those closest to him subject to the vendetta of their newest adversary, Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa). It turns out Dante is the son of Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida), whom Dom and co. performed a heist upon in Fast Five, which forces Dom and his family to take on a villain who knows how to constantly stay one-step ahead of them.
In Fast X, Dante is extremely adept at manipulating and plotting against his enemies from behind the scenes, including planting moles in Dom's inner circle. Specifically, Aimes (Alan Ritchson) is initially shown to be the successor of Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell) in his top-secret Agency, only to be revealed as Dante's ally by the cliffhanger ending of Fast X. The movie also shows how far back the two go, with Aimes an associate of Dante's during the events of Fast Five.
Fast X Retcons The Agency's Aimes Into Fast Five's Hernan Reyes Story
Fast X opens with a flashback to Dom's family pulling off their safe-dragging heist in Rio de Janeiro in Fast Five, with Dante having tried to pursue them only to be nearly killed during the movie's climactic chase. Later in the movie, after Aimes shoots down the cargo plane piloted by Dom's family, the flashbacks go even further, showing Aimes to have been in the employ of the Reyes family years earlier and witnessing Dom's heist right alongside Dante. As one of several Fast X character retcons, this raises some interesting questions about both Aimes and Dante's backstories.
With Aimes having been an associate of Dante's as far back as Fast Five, he likely feels as vengeful towards Dom and co. as Dante, having had his lucrative livelihood cut off by their heist. This also indicates that Aimes has even been instrumental in helping Dante set up his revenge against Dom and his family. With Aimes's training and connections to Mr. Nobody's Agency, the extent of his string-pulling could be greater than it seems on the surface.
Aimes' Revenge Plan Explained (& How He Took Control Over The Agency)
With Aimes having been an associate of Dante's as far back as Fast Five, his role in the Agency could hint at just how long Dante has been plotting his revenge with Aimes as a mole gradually working his way up the ladder. Moreover, Mr. Nobody's still unexplained disappearance in F9 may have been orchestrated by Aimes, and with Dante's preference for making his enemies suffer, Mr. Nobody is also likely still alive and being held captive. Additionally, the mission Dom's family embarks on in Rome is also evidently the work of Aimes, with the goal being to manipulate them into being framed for a terrorist act like pawns on a chessboard.
Dante is a fittingly goofy villain for Fast X, but he is also one who knows how to get what he wants and will go to any lengths to achieve it. In sharing the same vendetta against Dom's family, Aimes is a villainous ally on equal footing with Dante. With the ending of Fast X, the full extent of Aimes's own ruthlessness as a villain will likely come into focus in his return in Fast & Furious 11.
