Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from the FBI: International series finale, "Gaijin."
Jesse Lee Soffer's Wes Mitchell (the newest addition to the Fly Team) searched for a serial killer alongside local cop Reiko. Unfortunately, this meant that the episode was quite Wes-centric and largely ignored the other, more seasoned of the Fly Team (like Vo and Raines). The FBI: International finale also ended without resolution concerning who landed the GS-14 position between Vo and Raines.
CBS previously canceled the two FBI spinoffs — FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International — in March 2025. Meanwhile, the original series lives on, and a new offshoot (CIA) premieres this fall. The cancelations were disappointing for many, but the news came early enough for the productions of both shows to write and film satisfying endings. Unfortunately, FBI: International seemingly didn't take advantage of this opportunity. Now, many fans have taken to social media to express their frustration, even calling the finale a "waste" (per X @tiffzidan). Check out other reactions below:
@xorunnerxo shared their feelings about FBI: International's last episode, pointing out how the cast and crew forwent the extra time they had to create a "solid series finale," calling it a "slap in the face" for fans.
@glad2bwstan itted that they started watching FBI: International for Soffer, but they were still upset by how the finale ignored other characters like Vo and Raines.
@seniarov explained that "Gaijin" was a good episode in a vacuum, but since it was a series finale, they called it "disrespectful" for only focusing on Wes.
@Karen_5021g blamed CBS for FBI: International's failure, claiming that the network cares more about money than about the audience.
@MrJoelGarcia9 pointed out how odd it was for the police procedural's last episode to focus on Wes in Tokyo.
@Jrocedural461 aired out their frustrations by comparing the FBI: International series finale to FBI: Most Wanted's ending.
@wannaseeireland also called the ending of the FBI spinoff a "slap in the face" and drew attention to how the episode concluded with many questions unanswered.
What The Reactions To The FBI: International Series Finale Mean For The Show
The Franchise Can Still Rectify FBI: International's Mistakes
The good news is that the FBI franchise will live on past the series finales of FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted. Consequently, there's still a chance that CBS can mend the shortcomings of FBI: International's last episode. So, while other networks likely won't save the FBI spinoff from cancelation, the other two series in the franchise can fix the show's characters' endings after seeing the fans' reactions to the finale.

Why Luke Kleintank's Scott Forrester Left FBI: International After Season 3
FBI: International had to explain Scott Forrester leaving the Fly Team and why the team was getting a new leader in FBI: International season 4.
As of the writing of this article, it's unclear whether any FBI: International characters will cross over to FBI or CIA. Since nothing has been confirmed, viewers shouldn't count on it. However, given how unhappy the audience is about how the CBS police procedural series concluded, the producers might feel more inclined to integrate characters like Vo, Raines, or Smitty into the other FBI series. For now, though, fans will have to live with FBI: International season 4's ending.
Our Take On FBI: International's Controversial Ending
The Season 4 Finale Doesn't Feel Like A Satisfying End
As many fans mentioned above, the last episode of FBI: International season 4 never feels like a series-ender. If the show were to continue with a fifth season, this would be a different story. Instead, it seems the writers learned about the cancelation and then changed nothing for their planned (but not yet filmed) season 4 finale. The episode doesn't contain much resolution for any important characters, except for maybe Wes, who has only been around for one season. So, it's easy to understand why many fans are upset by the events of the FBI: International finale.
