After an impressive six-year run, FBI: Most Wanted has officially come to an end. The series finale aired Tuesday, May 20 on CBS and saw the Fugitive Task Force complete their last mission as a unit. Season 6, episode 22, "The Circle Game," ends with Remy dropping a major surprise while the group is gathered for dinner at his new restaurant — the leader will be retiring from the FBI.

Remy's departure isn't the only twist, as he also reveals who will be taking over his position. In recent installments, FBI: Most Wanted built up to Barnes accepting a job in Washington D.C. to be closer to her ex-wife and children. However, rather than moving, she will now be the new Supervisory Special Agent. It's a heartwarming full-circle moment that showcases both Barnes' personal development and the evolution of her relationship with Remy.

After screening the FBI: Most Wanted series finale, I sent some of my most burning questions over to showrunner David Hudgins. He shares when the finale was written, discusses Remy's dynamic with Barnes, and teases the CIA spinoff.

Remy Would've Returned To The Task Force If FBI: Most Wanted Had Been Renewed

"Life goes on for the task force and the characters."

You knew FBI: Most Wanted was ending before wrapping the finale. Was that dinner scene added in after you learned about the cancellation?

David Hudgins: We knew before we ever started writing the finale. The writers had so many great ideas, but I knew I wanted to have closure and end on a note of hope instead of despair. Life goes on for the task force and the characters.

Remy retires. Would he have returned if the show had been renewed for an additional season?

David Hudgins: Yes, Remy would have returned.

Barnes and Remy have clashed throughout Most Wanted. What did you want these final episodes to say about their relationship and where they are now?

David Hudgins: He and Barnes are both alphas and I always enjoyed that dynamic between them. I think they earned each other’s respect - and love.

Is there a Most Wanted character you wish you'd gotten to explore more, and are there any plans to continue any Most Wanted storylines in CIA or FBI?

David Hudgins: Certainly we had other stories on deck for each of our cast. There were also certain “bad guys” we always talked about bringing back - usually because of individual guest actor performances. But Most Wanted is over.

With the new show being New York-based, how will the CIA's function as a foreign intelligence service play a role in the weekly investigations?

David Hudgins: The CIA does do domestic intelligence activities, with certain limitations, and it already works with the FBI. The plan is to explore this dynamic much more deeply.

Tom Ellis' CIA character is described as a loose cannon, which may appeal to Lucifer fans. What other character traits does Tom bring to his CIA role that fans should be equally excited about?

David Hudgins: He is charming, smart, demanding, unpredictable, and funny - and he also operates in a very different world than traditional law enforcement. It will be fun to watch Tom take over this character and make him his own - he’s such a gifted actor.

Would you ever be open to doing an onscreen reunion with Tom Ellis and Lauren German for CIA?

David Hudgins: I think it’s way too early to comment on that!
