Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for FBI: Most Wanted season 6, episode 20.As we near the end of FBI: Most Wanted season 6 is setting up for that, involving one of the most underused characters of the entire series.

Ray Cannon (Edwin Hodge) hasn’t had a lot of development in FBI: Most Wanted, especially throughout the last season. Yet, FBI: Most Wanted season 6, episode 20 seemed to hint that Ray could face heartbreak rather than a happy family ending, and that would have only made sense if FBI: Most Wanted season 7 was going to happen. With the way his arc is going so far and with just two episodes left, he needs a happy family ending.

Ray Sr. Is Oddly Too Confused & Weak In FBI: Most Wanted Season 6, Episode 20

FBI: Most Wanted Seemed To Lightly Hint A Health Problem

While the majority of FBI: Most Wanted season 6, episode 20 focused on the case of the week, the ending took us to Ray and his family. He, his dad Ray Sr. (Steven Williams), and his stepson Caleb (Ja’Siash Young) were out camping in the backyard. Ray wanted to move the camping back inside the house, noting that the fire was a bust and it was getting cold.

FBI: Most Wanted may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean all arcs need to end. Hana should move over to the team in the CIA FBI spinoff.

However, Ray Sr. wanted to remain outside, but he looked confused and weak. He knocked over his drink, and he didn’t realize that his hands were cold when Ray pointed that out to him. In the end, he seemed to stumble as he finally relented and went inside to watch the Mets game. It’s possible that he could have just had too much to drink, but this also seemed a small hint that there was something more serious going on.

Why FBI: Most Wanted Ending With Ray Sr.'s Death Is A Bad Idea

There Aren’t Enough Episodes To Do This Story Justice

With Ray Sr.’s actions, it looks like this CBS not canceled FBI: Most Wanted. With only two episodes to go, it doesn’t make sense to opt for this, and if the writers did decide to include this storyline initially, hopefully, it was changed when they learned the series would be canceled.

This is the sort of arc that needed multiple episodes to build up to, allowing us to feel empathy and sadness for Ray.

At this point, a death comes across as purely for shock value. We haven’t had a chance to get to know Ray Sr. enough to feel a lot for him, and FBI agent Ray Cannon has been underused throughout the series to feel too much for him. This is the sort of arc that needed multiple episodes to build up to, allowing us to feel empathy and sadness for Ray.

Ray's Best Ending In FBI: Most Wanted Is With A Happy Family

Ray Has Been Sidelined Too Much In FBI: Most Wanted

Ray and Cora getting married in the FBI: Most Wanted Season 5 finale.

FBI: Most Wanted season 6 has focused mostly on Remy Scott (Dylan McDermott) and Sheryll Barnes (Roxy Sternberg), and it’s led to a couple of characters being sidelined. The one most overlooked is Ray, who hasn’t had a lot of family drama to contend with. There’s nothing wrong with a lack of family drama when there is so much going on with other characters, but he needed other development, whether it was with friends or in his career.

There are several loose ends and character arcs that FBI: Most Wanted needs to tie up before the procedural airs the final episode of the series.

Because of this, we need to see him get a happy ending in the FBI: Most Wanted series finale rather than a forced death. When we have seen him, it’s been how he has stepped up as a stepfather, earning the title of “bonus dad” and gaining Caleb’s respect. The best way to honor that is to show Ray happy with the way his life is in the finale, instead of having to grieve without us seeing it.
