Remy's absence was likely due to the ongoing cast rotation policy in FBI and FBI: Most Wanted. This policy requires some key characters to take time off during the season. Absences are sometimes explained with throwaway lines, while other times they might be built into an ongoing story. For example, there was widespread speculation that FBI after he was suspended, but he was merely missing for a few episodes before being reinstated. At that point, he warned Barnes, "I like you, Barnes. I really do... but do something like that again and you're gone." However, in "100%," Barnes proved her leadership abilities during the hostage situation.

During the remaining episodes, Remy could continue to delegate more responsibility to Barnes before eventually putting in for early retirement.

Despite Barnes' and Remy's earlier conflict, this story puts her in the perfect position to become the new team leader when FBI: Most Wanted wraps up.
