How To Unlock The Pictomancer Job

Wield Skills Inspired By Final Fantasy 6

Before you can unlock the Pictomancer, there are a few requirements that must be met. Adventurers will need to have purchased the Dawntrail expansion, and they must have either a Disciple of Magic or a Disciple of War at level 80. This should already be accomplished by veteran adventurers in FF14. Achieving level 80 is an easy task as the Main Story Quests give plenty of experience needed to reach this goal.

Players do not need to wait to reach a new area to unlock the Pictomancer, as they can obtain this Job in Old Gridania. Travel here and speak to the NPC known as the Cheerless Hearer to start "The Joy of Pictomancy" quest.

By default, pressing "X" on PC will hide player names and make speaking to the Cheerless Hearer easier.

After talking with this NPC, completing a short quest, and viewing the subsequent cutscenes, you will be awarded the Soul of the Pictomancer Job crystal, a paintbrush, and some Casting gear. The Pictomancer shares the same set of Job gear as other Magical Ranged DPS, such as the Red and Black Mage. This is fantastic for anyone who already has a set ready from their other Jobs.

While the Pictomancer isn't available to adventurers in the free trial of FF14, you can still experience a large portion of the game this way. Free trial players can reach level 70 and enjoy the A Realm Reborn base game, as well as Heavensward and Stormblood. Those two Final Fantasy 14 expansions can be fully explored by anyone, completely for free.
