Summary

  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a more in-depth and ambitious RPG compared to its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
  • The first chapter's progress from the demo will carry over to the full game, but not the Junon area.
  • Players who have save data from the demo will receive bonus items in the full game.

The much anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is almost here, and with a newly released demo available, some may be wondering if they should wait or if it is worth it to play the demo now. This game is the direct sequel to 2020's Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the second part of a trilogy of games that will comprise the remake of 1997's Final Fantasy 7. Though not an original game, there are some large gameplay shifts taking place, including narrative changes.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to be released on February 29, 2024, with the demo for the game available right now. One of the biggest complaints with demos, however, is that it can feel tedious for an excited player who already experienced the demo to have that progress erased when the full game releases. Having to retrace steps and replay the portion of the game that was available for the demo can be fun, but more often than not, it is frustrating for players who want to move forward with the rest of the story.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a significant evolution of Remake, and it’s shaping up to be a far more in-depth RPG, boasting a more ambitious scope.

Everything That Carries Over From The Demo To Full Game Of FF7 Rebirth

Junon Area Does Not Carry Over

The demo consists of the first chapter of the game and a limited version of another episode taking place in Junon.

What Carries Over

What Does Not

Nibelheim Episode

Junon Area Episode

The first chapter is the Nibelheim episode and, if completed in the demo, will be able to be skipped once the full game launches. Because the Junon content is an altered and more compact version, it will not carry over to the full game because there will be much more to it that players would miss out on if skipped.

In order for any progress from the demo to carry over, the demo's save data must be present on the PS5 console when the game launches.

Bonus Demo Items For FF7 Rebirth Game Launch

Yuffie points at something offscreen, while Tifa and Aerith look on beside her. Behind the three Cloud can also be seen.

To make the demo even more enticing to players, every player who has saved data from the demo when the full game launches will be able to get some additional bonuses. These are small extras that will not change any major portion of the gameplay, and therefore, if someone chooses not to get the demo first, it is not detrimental. For having the demo save data on the PS5 when the full game launches, players will receive the following two bonus items:

Kupo Charm

An accessory that increases the number of resource items extracted at a set rate.

Survival Set

A selection of items to aid on your adventure, such as potions and ethers.

It has not been made clear if a player has to have completed any specified portion of the demo to obtain the Kupo Charm and Survival Set in the game. For many eager adventurers, taking this early opportunity to experience at least the first chapter of the story could be a fun way to build anticipation for the full release later this month. Just that beyond the initial chapter with the Nibelheim flashback, any Junon content will be lost when the full game of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches.
