Square Enix has been trademarking several interesting potential Final Fantasy titles lately, including Ever Crisis. Rumors and speculation have pointed toward it either being the name of the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, or a new remake of Crisis Core, an adored PSP game starring FF7's Zack Fair. So, is Ever Crisis a sequel, a remake, a spin-off - or something else entirely?

Ever Crisis made headlines a couple of weeks ago when it was revealed that Square Enix had trademarked the name. Since then, the company behind Final Fantasy has trademarked the name in multiple countries. Fans are understandably excited, since it could mean a remake of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, which has never left its home console, the PSP. Fans have been asking for a Crisis Core remake or remaster for a long time, but it's unlikely Ever Crisis will be a full-fledged remake, since development of FF7 Remake Part 2 is likely taking up most of the development team's time.

That means, then, that there's always a chance Ever Crisis is the name of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. Fans have speculated that the sequel to FF7 Remake could focus on Crisis Core. Even if that's not the case, a title like Ever Crisis is pretty open-ended, and it could still be the subtitle for FF7 Remake Part 2. This seemingly makes the most sense, although there are a couple of other possibilities.

Is Ever Crisis A Final Fantasy 7 Spin-Off Or Sequel?

There's always the possibility that Ever Crisis will be something more simple, like a promotional mobile game. Final Fantasy VII G-Bike released on mobile devices in 2014 before vanishing about a year later. This game was, at least in part, a promotion for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. So, it's always possible Ever Crisis is something similar.

Then there's the rumors of a brand-new spin-off, one that stars the FF7 Remake version of Zack Fair. That could be great for understanding more about Zack's origins and backstory, but that would again take up a lot of development time. So, if Ever Crisis is something more complicated than a mobile game, fans are likely years away from knowing more - especially considering the name was just recently trademarked.

Of course, Ever Crisis could also just be trademarked by Square Enix because it's used in one of its games. It doesn't mean it's actually a title - it could just be the name of something in FF7 Remake Part 2. Until Square Enix releases more info about Ever Crisis, or about the follow-up to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, fans will just have to rely on rumors for now.
