Though Yuffie is taking the starring role, the INTERmission DLC for run alongside FF7 Remake's main storyline and involve Yuffie infiltrating the city of Midgar

The content of the Yuffie chapters wasn't part of the original FF7's storyas players can't encounter Yuffie until well after the Midgar section of the original game. As such, the new Yuffie chapters will flesh out what she was doing before the events of the original game (at least in the Remake timeline) and incorporate elements of FF7 spinoffs by adding content from Dirge of Cerberus.

Given Remake's changes to the original game, it's no surprise INTERmission will be adding new characters like Sonon, a non-playable party member who fights alongside Yuffie. But the trailers for FF7 Remake Intergrade have revealed some characters from the original FF7 will also be reappearing in the DLC.

FF7 Remake DLC: Returning Characters From The Original Game

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade Ramuh

The cut from FF7 Remake in favor of Leviathan. Ramuh can only be accessed by Yuffie in the DLC chapters, though, and cannot be used in the main storyline.

Additionally, the INTERmission DLC will use characters from different entries in the original Compilation of FF7 series. Yuffie and Sonon will battle Deepground troops from Dirge of Cerberus. Weiss the Immaculate was revealed in the first trailer, but all evidence points to him being restricted to the Shinra Combat Simulator. One character from Dirge of Cerberus who will have a role in the story is Nero the Sable, as he's shown fighting Yuffie and Sonon in a boss battle. It's unclear if more original FF7 characters will appear in INTERmission, but statements made by the developers suggest Yuffie won't meet Cloud in the DLC, so their first encounter is more likely to happen in a later Remake game.
