Although the price of the Nintendo Switch 2's games has been making headlines for how high they are, there isn't any denying the impressive line-up of third-party titles, including Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. The Switch 2 won't have hardware on par with current gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X, yet many of the games coming to the console should demand that. Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Borderlands 4, and Hogwarts Legacy are all massive, great-looking games coming to the Switch 2, and seem to be the first of many third-party titles.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade shouldn't be a massive surprise on the Switch 2, given Cloud and Sephiroth's addition to the Smash Bros. roster. Although the wait for the FF7 Remake may have tricked people into thinking it is relatively recent, the game has been around for five years now and was playable back on PlayStation 4 hardware. It still looks great and seems like it will be easily playable on the Switch 2, given the hardware it could run on, but there are hints that more from the FF7 series could be in Nintendo's hands, which could cause issues.

FF7 Remake Intergrade Doesn’t Sound Like The Only Port

The Switch 2 Stream Could Have Shown Nintendo's Hand

There was a lot going on during the Nintendo Direct stream for the Switch 2, from a brief Hollow Knight: Silksong release window confirmation in a montage to a new FromSoftware title announcement that seems suspiciously Bloodborne-like. Still, there was a brief statement in the stream, saying, “Please look forward to more updates on the Final Fantasy 7 remake project on Switch 2. This makes it seem like there is more to come from the FF7 Remake games on the Switch 2, possibly porting over Rebirth and whatever the third installment of the trilogy ends up being called.

FF7 Remake seems to be coming to Switch 2 even before Xbox, despite the latter having hardware capable of running the game for years. Leaks suggest an FF7R Xbox port is still coming.

This could also mean some of the spin-off titles get some love. Crisis Core Reunion could also be coming, given that it is a remake of a PSP game and suited for a portable console like the Switch 2. Crisis Core Reunion is also not very demanding compared to the likes of Rebirth, and would suit the hardware of the Switch 2 without needing much tinkering. If Rebirth and the untitled Part 3 come to the Switch 2, it could spell a lot of issues for the port, especially given how much the PS5 struggles with its performance.

Optimizing FF7 Rebirth & Part 3 For Switch 2 Could Be A Struggle

Fitting It Into Portable Hardware Is A Mammoth Task

FF7 Rebirth looks incredible, but this graphical fidelity and size of its open zones will likely cause some issues with a potential port. Unlike with Remake, which can run on the PS4 and is smooth as butter for the PS5 in Performance Mode, Rebirth requires some fuzzy upscaling to get the job done. It's recommended sytem requirements on Steam are nothing to sniff at either, especially the 155GB size, which has to be reduced if Switch 2 players want to have more than a couple of games installed.

The PS5 version of FF7 Rebirth is slightly smaller at 145GB.

Rebirth will need some significant adjustments to run well on the Switch 2, possibly looking closer to its low settings on PC, especially with how vast and detailed its open world is. It's probably safe to assume that FF7 Remake Part 3 will be even more demanding, and trying to squeeze that into the Switch 2 will be an even tougher task, especially if it takes up more storage space. While 256GB of storage for the Switch 2 is an upgrade on its predecessor, it looks tiny when considering how big AAA games are now.

Playing FF7 Remake Games On The Go Could Be Great

It Can Help Get Through Tedious Moments

Still, if Nintendo can manage to port the rest of the FF7 Remake games onto the Switch, it could be a great way to play them. There are a lot of meandering tasks to do in FF7 Rebirth's open world, and while this is tedious when sitting at home, it could help fill time on the go. Perhaps doing some of these more tedious and repetitive moments could be a great way to whittle time on a train to work, for instance, encouraging players to take their Switch 2 with them.

Nintendo Switch 2 May Address One Of The Biggest Problems Of The Switch 1

Speaking during a developer roundtable event, Nintendo may be aiming to address one of the biggest problems of the Switch 1, but the message is vague.

There will be a lot of work involved in getting Rebirth and Part 3 to work on the Switch 2, and that's assuming they even come, given that there hasn't been an official announcement. It could just mean that Crisis Core Reunion is getting a port and that's it, but for the time being, players will be able to get their hands on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade for the Switch 2. More is likely to come from the FF7 Remake project in the future for the Switch 2, and it will be interesting to see what form that comes in.
