The INTERmission DLC for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is now available, letting players experience a side story tangential to the original FF7 Remake. The INTERmission DLC was originally billed as being about Yuffie in Midgar, but it ends with a post-credits scene that shows more of the main FF7 Remake storyline.

FF7 Remake only remakes the opening hours of FF7, as it expands the Midgar section of the story to the length of a full game. The game ended at the point where many fans expected it would - with the party leaving Midgar and heading out into the world map for the first time. FF7 Remake also involved the characters breaking free from their destinies in FF7 Remake's ending, which means the party doesn't have to follow the events of the original game going forward.

The post-credits scenes in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade: INTERmission confirm that the party will be following the same trail as they did in the original FF7, as their next destination is the town of Kalm. The group manages to hitch a ride from the boundaries of Midgar to a crossroads with Kalm on one end, and what is likely the Chocobo Farm on the other. The player has been given their first glimpse of Kalm, albeit from a distance, as the party has only just reached the town at the end of INTERmission.

A lot of fans speculated that the unnamed FF7 Remake sequel would begin in Kalm. In FF7, this is where a lengthy flashback takes place. Cloud explains his past with SOLDIER, his relationship with Sephiroth, and the events that led to a bloody massacre in the town of Nibelheim. This segment of the game is referred to as the Nibelheim Flashback, and different variations of it have been shown in the FF7 spin-offs. The Nibelheim Flashback is key to understanding the story of FF7 and it's no surprise that it will be featured prominently at the beginning of FF7 Remake Part 2. The post-credits scenes of Episode INTERmission are an interesting way to see where Cloud and the party are headed, and it sets up the sequel nicely.
