Final Fantasy 7 Remake is opening up the multiverse for its story, but it's ignoring another Square Enix multiverse that it could take advantage of: Kingdom Hearts. Kingdom Hearts made a name for itself by crafting a multiversal setting in order to tell a story featuring both Final Fantasy and Disney characters and elements, so a Kingdom Hearts cameo of some kind would be a fun time in sequels for this new telling of Final Fantasy 7.

When Final Fantasy 7 Remake was first announced, fans believed it would simply be a retelling of the legendary game, but with modern graphics and gameplay. Instead, key plot points of the remake's storyline are actively changing the original tale, including setting up foreshadowing that it will be skipping FF7's most iconic moment. With this setup, literally anything seems to be possible, so why not throw Sora, Donald, and Goofy in there for good measure?

If these two universes collided in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, it would be the talk of the entire JRPG community. Even if it was just a momentary cameo like Ardyn from Final Fantasy 15 appearing in Assassin's Creed: Origins, it could be a fun way to offer fans a little something different for fans to find. When it comes to introducing the multiverse in either a Final Fantasy or Disney context, all roads lead back to Kingdom Hearts.

How Sora Could Appear In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

There are many ways in which Sora from Kingdom Hearts could make an appearance in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The most obvious way is to make him an optional boss fight. After all, Sephiroth was a boss fight in both the original Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2, boss fights preserved for 1.5 Remix and 2.5 Remix. The least likely option (that would nonetheless be the most memorable by far) is actually making Sora an active participant of the story. With the branching timelines and multiverse focused story, having Sora actually appear canonically in the story wouldn't be the strangest thing that could appear. This will most likely never happen, especially as it could risk seriously putting off FF7 purists, but it's fun to consider as a possibility.

Sora appearing as either a secret Easter egg or as an optional boss fight is as close as as he's likely to get to the FF7 multiverse, but it isn't as if those wouldn't be exciting on their own. It wouldn't even be the weirdest thing to happen in these games, seeing as how it's implied FF7 Rebirth might have two Clouds. Either way, the face of the Square Enix multiverse needs to make an appearance somewhere in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
