The  Animal Crossing: New Horizons to critical and financial success.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is an effort from Square Enix to rebuild the game that launched the franchise to new heights with western audiences, and it has been one of the most consistently talked about titles over the past several years thanks in part to a lengthy development time. Discussions about just what previews for Final Fantasy 7 Remake began rolling in, however, as critics were united in praising the remake effort and tagging it as a potential game of the year candidate.

In an interview with Final Fantasy 7 Remake co-director Naoki Hamaguchi on the official Square Enix website, it was revealed that there are even more changes coming to the game, one of which is a mysterious addition that will have fans speculating for weeks. According to Hamaguchi, the Shinra Building will be getting an overhaul that includes an entirely new floor. Here's what Hamaguchi had to say about the new Shinra Building floor in Final Fantasy 7 Remake:

"I won't reveal exactly what that entails, because I want people to enjoy it when they actually play the game, but I will say that [Final Fantasy 7 Remake] has added a new upper floor to the Shinra Building to present a climax that was not in the original."

Obviously the key note here - beyond the fact that Final Fantasy 7 Remake has a new Shinra Building floor to begin with - is that it will also include a "climax" that's new to the game. Just what that is will be interesting, since the Shinra Building was already the site of many of the early game's most important revelations. It's possible that the FF7 Remake Shinra Building new floor will feature characters from spin-off content, since that's something that's easier with a game being split into fully-developed parts, or that it will introduce a villain or concept earlier than the previous title did.

Whatever the changes coming to Final Fantasy 7 Remake mean, though, it's exciting to see Square Enix unafraid to tamper with a formula that was already brilliant. Adapting a game for modern audiences decades after its original release is no small task and things like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake new Shinra Building floor are exactly what long-time fans will be unable to resist when the game launches in April.
