Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 is by far the series' most famous villain, which can make it hard to that he is actually the weakest final boss from any of the games. Final Fantasy has a reputation for epic final boss fights, with almost every game coming through in that regard. However, the final confrontation with Sephiroth is essentially effortless.

Final Fantasy 7 is the most well-known game in the series, and often held up as one of the greatest JRPGs ever made. Both the protagonist Cloud and main villain Sephiroth have ascended to be two of the most iconic video game characters of their era, if not the poster children for Final Fantasy as a whole. Cloud and Sephiroth have been prominent in spin-offs, and have also made appearances in Kingdom Hearts as well as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. With FF7 Ever Crisis set to explore Sephiroth's origins, the silver-haired villain is clearly not ready to leave the spotlight anytime soon.

At the end of Final Fantasy 7, Sephiroth takes on a final transformation known as Safer Sephiroth. Despite the title, Safer Sephiroth is one of the game's biggest challenges, with a massive HP pool and several high-powered attacks, he is a true test for the player's endgame party. Safer Saphiroth's difficulty is what one would expect for a fight at the end of the story. However, despite being the final battle that involves the full party, Safer Sephiroth is not the final boss fight. Instead, after his defeat, Cloud and Sephiroth will have a final one-on-one duel in the Lifestream to end their animosity once and for all. Considering how much Cloud and Sephiroth hate each other in FF7, it's a fitting final showdown.

It Is Impossible To Lose Final Fantasy 7's Final Fight

It's actually impossible to lose the final duel against Sephiroth on FF7.

Although the setting of the fight is very cinematic, it does come with a caveat. The final duel with Sephiroth is impossible to lose. The player gets Omnislash for free at the start, and it will KO Sephiroth in one hit. However, even if the player didn't use Omnislash, Sephiroth still couldn't win. He only has 1 HP in this fight, so any damage from Cloud at all will defeat him. Even if Sephiroth does manage to attack, his attack is coded to only bring Cloud to critical health, and it also causes Cloud to counterattack, defeating Sephiroth instantly. When it comes to Final Fantasy's hardest final bosses, Sephiroth isn't even in the conversation despite his popularity.

The image of a shirtless Sephiroth holding his signature sword at the ready is an iconic one in the series, so much that this version of him is one of his Super Smash Bros. Ultimate costumes. However, in Final Fantasy 7 itself, the player will only see him this way very briefly before Cloud dispatches him. To be fair, this final battle does its job in making an incredible spectacle. Even though the fight itself is impossible to lose, the final showdown, Cloud's Omnislash, and Sephiroth fading out at the end are all unforgettable. Almost any Final Fantasy fan would agree, no matter what FF7 Rebirth might change about the original story.

Sephiroth's reputation is legendary, and he is still one of the most memorable villains in gaming history. His final duel with Cloud in the Lifestream is a defining moment for both characters, and manages to end the game on a high note. Even though Final Fantasy 7 has one of the easiest final bosses ever, it's hard not to appreciate it for what it is.
