Relic questline during the last expansion, Endwalker.
Hildibrand's sidequests have always been praised for their delightfully cartoonish plots, over-the-top action scenes, and lovably foolish characters. Little about that has changed, even now, when we're firmly in post-Dawntrail patch territory, Hildibrand and the Mandervilles are inextricably tied to FFXIV lore, and the man himself is back with an all-new adventure. Players look forward to new Hildibrand content every time post-launch patches come around, and this time is no exception. Here's how to find and start Hildibrand's new quest in FFXIV patch 7.15.

Hildibrand Quests In Dawntrail Requirements
Story & Level Prerequisites
In order to start the new Hildibrand quest in patch 7.15, you'll need to have achieved the following three things:
- Disciple of War or Magic level 100
- Completed MSQ "Dawntrail"
- Completed previous Hildibrand sidequest "Gentlemen at Heart"
In short, the first requirement means that you have to be maxed out on your Job level to start the new Hildibrand quest in patch 7.15. It doesn't matter whether you're playing as one of the new Dawntrail exclusive classes like Pictomancer, or an old staple like Warrior or Black Mage - as long as you're level 100 and fit to fight, you're good to go. No Disciples of the Hand or Land welcome here, unfortunately. If you know you've leveled up at least one class to 100, but still can't start the quest, make sure you have the right main weapon equipped.
Next, you must have completed the main story quest through "Dawntrail" in order to start the new Hildibrand quest. In effect, that means you must have finished the entirety of the Dawntrail MSQ, all the way through its ending. You'll want to see "To be continued" in your next MSQ window at the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail: An Expectation That Still Surprises
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is a change of pace for the popular MMO, but it's a refreshing expansion at this point in its decade-long lifespan.
And finally, you need to have completed the previous Hildibrand quest, "Gentlemen at Heart," in order to start "The Case of the Displaced Inspector." You can start this quest by speaking to Godbert in Thavnair, at coordinates X:22 Y:34. Of course, this quest is itself part of the Endwalker Hildibrand questline, so you may have to go back as far as "The Sleeping Gentleman" in Radz-at-Han. For that quest, you must have completed everything through the finale of Endwalker, and meet with the Excitable Youth at X: 11.8 Y: 11.2.
And in case you need to go even further back, consult the chart below for every Hildibrand quest and starting location. Note that you must have finished each expansion's MSQ to take on its Hildibrand quests.
Expansion |
Quest |
Starting Location |
---|---|---|
A Realm Reborn |
"The Rise and Fall of Gentlemen" |
Ul'dah, Steps of Nald (X: 9.8 Y: 8.7) |
Heavensward |
"A Gentleman Falls, Rather Than Flies" |
Coerthas, The Pillars (X: 5.9 Y: 9.9) |
Stormblood |
"A Hingan Tale: Nashu Goes East" |
Kugane (X: 10.6 Y: 9.8) |
Endwalker |
"The Sleeping Gentleman" |
Radz-at-Han (X: 11.8 Y: 11.2) |
Shadowbringers is, to date, the only expansion not to have its own Hildibrand questline.
In case you haven't completed all the prerequisites yet, don't worry; the new Hildibrand quest is bound to stick around for a while. Just because it's part of the current patch doesn't mean it'll disappear with the next update.
Where To Begin "The Case of the Displaced Inspector"
7.15 Hildibrand Quest Location
To start the new Hildibrand quest in patch 7.15, simply head to Tuliyollal and look for Nashu, who should be a pretty familiar NPC by this point in the Manderville questline. Specifically, she's located at X: 14.5 Y: 12.5. Speak with her, and, as long as you meet all the requirements, you'll be able to get started on the new Hildibrand questline, "Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures."

FFXIV Crossing Over With FF7 Would Be Fun, But It Misses The Bigger Picture
The various crossovers that bring content from other games to the world of Final Fantasy 14 are fun, but there’s an underlying issue behind them.
The rest is up to you: simply follow the quest markers and objectives as the quests flow seamlessly into one another. What new adventures await the errant detective in Tuliyollal? Final Fantasy XIV players will just have to see for themselves.
