With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, many Final Fantasy XIV fans are excited about the game’s seasonal event, Valentione’s Day, which will be running for about two weeks this month and offering a few unique rewards. As the name implies, the celebration is themed after Valentine’s Day. Fortunately, Eorzea’s version of the holiday isn’t quite as relationship-centric as it tends to be in the real world, so fans can partake of the fun regardless of relationship status.
The annual Valentione’s Day event first appeared in FFXIV 1.0, and it returned to the game the first February after A Realm Reborn’s 2013 launch. Each year, the celebration goes for a brief period around February 14. As with most holidays, Eorzea’s three main city-states (Gridania, Limsa Lominsa, and Ul’dah) and its residential districts will be decorated to match the theme. In the spirit of Valentione's Day, fans should take a quick break from grinding Endwalker's Astronomy Tomestones long enough to appreciate the cute, heart-shaped décor surrounding them this Valentione's Day 2022.
This year’s event artwork, rewards, and quest names all indicate that love letters will be a central component of FFXIV’s Valentione’s Day 2022 story. Just like flowers, chocolates, and hearts, love letters are an iconic symbol of Valentine’s Day; yet, at the same time, they offer a new angle for the event’s questline, ensuring a fresh story instead of a stale repeat of old content. Given FFXIV’s propensity for great storytelling, fans can probably expect a fun and heart-warming tale.
When FFXIV Valentione’s Day 2022 Starts
FFXIV’s Valentione’s Day 2022 seasonal event will begin on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at 12 a.m. (PST). The event will continue until Monday, February 21, 2022, at 6:59 a.m. (PST). This comes less than a week after the end of FFXIV’s 2022 All Saints’ Wake event, a Halloween-themed event that concluded on February 2. Shortly before that was the New Years-themed Heavensturn event, which was preceded by the Christmas-themed Starlight Celebration. Seasonal events have been popping up one after the other, and the trend is likely to continue since it's a good way to ensure players return to the game.
If FFXIV’s seasonal event schedule follows its usual cycle, the Little Ladies’ Day event, themed after the Japanese holiday Hinamatsuri, will be next. Though 2021’s Little Ladies’ Day event occurred simultaneously with its Valentione’s Day celebration in FFXIV, this was an exception to the rule, and Square Enix has given no indication that there will be any overlap between them again in 2022. Most likely, fans can expect the Little Ladies’ Day event to begin sometime near the end of February or the beginning of March. Hinamatsuri, which is also sometimes known as Girls’ Day, occurs on March 3 each year, so FFXIV’s seasonal event celebrating the holiday probably won’t begin later than that.
Where To Start Valentione’s Day 2022 In FFXIV
The level 15 quest that kicks off FFXIV’s Valentione’s Day 2022 story is called “No Love Lost." The quest will be available to pick up in Old Gridania once the event has officially started. Players can get the quest by speaking to Lisette de Valentione, a character who’s been featured in past Valentione’s Day celebrations as well. She will be located at the coordinates (X:10.2, Y:9.5), on the stage of Mih Khetto’s Amphitheatre. This is a common starting place for seasonal quests, so fans who have participated in past events such as FFXIV's 2021 Starlight Celebration might know the spot already.
A special instance called the Valentione’s Ceremony has appeared in the event every year since it was introduced in 2018, and there’s a good chance Valentione’s Day 2022 will continue the pattern. If FFXIV brings back the instance this year, players will have to work in pairs to get through a moogle-filled maze. Even if the Valentione’s Ceremony doesn’t make an appearance this time around, fans can bet that FFXIV has something even better planned.
FFXIV: All Valentione’s Day 2022 Rewards Explained
There are many ways for players to customize their Chocobo mount in FFXIV, and one of them is with outfits called bardings. This Valentione’s Day 2022 event will reward players who participate with a unique (and adorable) item called the Postmoogle Barding. The item description reads: “A festive suit of Chocobo armor inspired by hardworking postmoogles everywhere.” This will let players equip their Chocobo with the iconic Postmoogles that are spread around FFXIV and serve as the in-game mail delivery system.
The other limited-time item offered as a Valentione's Day 2022 reward for the seasonal event is a wall-mounted decoration called the Valentione Mobile. With the same touch of humor often found in FFXIV item descriptions, it’s described as: “Dangling decorations crafted into various heart shapes, though none of them are anatomically accurate.” In addition to these limited-time rewards, certain items from previous Valentione’s Day celebrations will be available for purchase from an NPC known as the House Valentione Maid during Valentione's Day 2022.
Valentione’s Day events from years past gave a wide variety of rewards including jewelry, hats, outfits, weapons, furnishings, mounts, Chocobo bardings, emotes, minions, Orchestrion Rolls, food items, titles, and achievements. Some of these, like the broken heart mounts, are currently available on FFXIV’s online store for purchase. Others aren’t, however, and fans can only hope they’re made available for purchase during this year’s celebration.
For those who want to get the Postmoogle Barding or Valentione Mobile, they'll have until the event concludes on February 21, 2022, to get them. As usual, these are limited-time rewards, so unless they show up on the online shop (which will cost players money), then this is the only time they're available for free. Ever since Endwalker’s surprising MSQ concluded the existing story, many Final Fantasy XIV fans have been anxiously awaiting news about the future of the game. For now, however, they should take the Valentione’s Day 2022 event as an opportunity to shift their focus to appreciating and celebrating their loved ones. After all, that's what Valentione's Day is all about.
