Speaking on Twitter, Costner reacts to Mulaney’s recent Field of Dreams summary.

In his post, Costner reposted the clip of Mulaney at the Oscars. Costner then reacted “not a bad summary” with a laughing crying emoji in response to the Mulaney speech.

What Were John Mulaney’s Field of Dream Comments All About?

Comedian Mulaney took to the stage to present the Oscar for Achievement in Sound. Mulaney began his introduction of the category by noting some essential lines that the introduction of sound has brought to film. This bit devolved into the comedian quoting the line if you build it, they will come” from Field of Dreams and then rattling off a hilarious summary of the Costner film. Said synopsis included Mulaney questioning Ray Kinsella’s financial choices as well as the logistics of “ghost baseball.”

In this bit, Mulaney mentioned that Field of Dreams should win Best Picture. Field of Dreams is largely considered nostalgic and sentimental today, but it was nominated for Best Picture at the time of its release. It was also nominated for Oscars for Best Original Score and Best Adapted Screenplay. It lost both Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay to Driving Miss Daisy, and lost Best Original Score to the Disney animated film The Little Mermaid.
