The Master (2012)

Amy Adams teams up with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix for this drama, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. A veteran returns from war, and with an unsettling life, becomes involved with the Cause and its leader.

This mysterious and mesmerizing film was nominated for three Oscars, and one went to Amy Adams for Best Actress in a ing Role. This hidden gem was almost a decade ago, but it still totally worthy of watching.

Nocturnal Animals (2016)

This drama thriller only received one Oscar nomination, and Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams were totally snubbed. However, Michael Shannon was the recipient of the one nomination for this flick.

This thriller isn't for the faint of heart, and follows a wealthy art gallery owner as she reads her ex-husband's novel - a haunting tale of revenge, family, and murder. Each performance is astounding, and Amy Adams certainly deserved a nod.

Doubt (2008)

This is another underrated flick. While it received five Oscars, there was certainly not nearly enough hype about it. A Catholic school principal questions a priest's relationship with a young student.

With Philip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep, and Amy Adams, this dramatic, mysterious, and tragic film has stellar performances. With a nomination, Adams unfortunately lost out to Penélope Cruz.

Big Eyes (2014)

This biography crime drama is directed by Tim Burton, and stars Amy Adams alongside Christoph Waltz. Taking place in the 1950s, a painter goes through success - and legal troubles with her husband, who takes credit for her work.

Amy Adams received a Golden Globe for her performance, but this flick went completely unnoticed by the Academy. This hidden gem is yet another role where Adams' talent went under the radar.

Vice (2018)

This is one flick where she received a nomination for Best Actress in a ing Role, but lost out to Regina King for If Beale Street Could Talk. While it was definitely a tough category, Adams' performance was iconic.

She completed transformed herself in this biography directed by Adam McKay, and became Lynne Cheney. Alongside Christian Bale, this flick deserved way more recognition where its performances.

Junebug (2005)

This comedy drama was the movie that scored Amy Adams her first Oscar nomination. This underrated film is about an art dealer, who travels to meet her in-laws, where she must fit into the middle class Southern home.

This raw film is a total hidden gem, and while Amy Adams was nominated, it would have been totally incredible for her to have started her nominations off with a win.

Her (2013)

This sci-fi drama romance is directed by Spike Jonze. In a futuristic world, a lonely writer (Joaquin Phoenix) falls in love with his operating system (Scarlett Johansson), designed just for him.

Amy Adams takes the co-star role, and plays Phoenix's close friend. Every performance in this flick is stunning, as is the entire film, but none of the cast received a nod at the Oscars. However, it did win for Best Original Screenplay.

The Fighter (2010)

This is another biography drama, and again, Amy Adams stars alongside Christian Bale. This true story of boxer, Micky Ward, is a tragic, dramatic, and mesmerizing tale. With Mark Wahlberg, this flick won two Oscars.

Of course, while two of the cast took home a win, Amy Adams' nomination remained just that, since the Oscar actually went to her co-star, Melissa Leo. Still, this film clearly had a great cast and a great story.

Arrival (2016)

This sci-fi drama received an Oscar win, but neither Jeremy Renner or Amy Adams received nods for their performances. A linguist is hired by the military to try and communicate with mysterious life forms.

With plot twists, drama, mystery, and life itself, this flick is absolutely brilliant. Plus, Amy Adams offers one of her best and most raw performances, without even a nomination.

American Hustle (2013)

This crime drama is directed by David O. Russell, and Amy Adams stars alongside Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, and Jennifer Lawrence. With a stellar cast, this movie had all the drama, fire, and intriguing twists that any movie lover could want.

She plays a con woman, and her British/American character is totally to die for, and it seems like the role was made perfectly for her. With a nomination, she again missed out on the win.
