Patients were in for a Halloween treat recently when Cloud Strife from Cloud was almost Soulcalibur 2’s exclusive PS2 guest character, but the apparent deal fell through at the last minute.

HIV specialist and family physician Dr. William Powers revealed via Reddit that he had a bit of a surprise for his clientele for Halloween. In honor of the spooky season, Dr. Powers came to work dressed as Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII, while his cat, Fenrir, adorably dressed up as his owner. Dr. Powers would tend to all his patients that day while wearing his incredible Cloud cosplay and even performed minor surgery in the outfit. Incidentally, Dr. Power’s feline companion is more famous than he is, as Fenrir happens to hold the current Guinness World Record for being the tallest cat alive, standing at 18.83 inches tall. Fenrir also works alongside Dr. Powers as a helpful therapy cat for HIV patients, making the cat's doctor costume much more appropriate.

Final Fantasy Dissidia, Cloud Strife

Though it's relatively easy to find FF7 character cosplays nowadays, given the game’s well-known prestige, Dr. Powers’ work-related Final Fantasy fandom runs much deeper than a once-a-year occurrence. Aside from his spectacular costume, Dr. Powers mentioned that he also has an entire exam room adorned in a Final Fantasy theme. He even has a life-sized replica of Cloud’s trademark Buster Sword hanging on the wall. When asked by fellow Redditors about the room, Dr. Powers agreed to share a few photos at some point.

It's amazing how someone of such a respected profession can share his love for Final Fantasy at his job while simultaneously being the owner of such a famous feline. Suffice it to say the ever-growing Final Fantasy VII community has certainly come a long way since its initial launch in 1997, and in that 20+ year span, these enthusiasts have become no less ionate. After all, fans like Dr. Powers would help make the Final Fantasy 7 Remake the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive in 2020.

Fans like Dr. Powers and the adorable world-famous Fenrir prove that the original impact of Final Fantasy VII is one that still resonates today. With several more future Final Fantasy VII-related projects like FF7 Rebirth for fans to look forward to, it’s an impact likely not to diminish anytime soon. If a doctor can dress up like Cloud Strife, maybe one day a pilot will take to the skies as fellow Final Fantasy VII hero Cid Highwind.
