a tragic moment in Final Fantasy VII actually made him cry the first time he played through Square Enix's landmark 1997 JRPG.
Part of what made the original Final Fantasy VII’s storyline so compelling was the complicated love triangle between the grim mercenary Cloud Strife and his two female squates: his childhood friend-turned-AVALANCHE member Tifa Lockhart and the mysterious flower girl Aerith Gainsborough. This complex relationship was one of many qualities that established the RPG as a classic and gave it such incredible staying power. Even decades after Final Fantasy VII’s release, fans are still divided about which girl Cloud should have ended up with, as both Tifa and Aerith are fairly popular Final Fantasy VII characters in their own right.
The Batman co-stars Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz recently sat down to promote their newest movie on the French program Clique (via redeg the Final Fantasy 7 character's hairstyle. Pattinson playfully laments that players have trouble choosing between them. Kravitz was less than impressed with Pattinson’s description, playfully snarking about how the choices boil down to “the one that's gonna heal everything and the one in the short skirt” - prompting a laugh from everyone in attendance. A clip of this exchange can be seen in a Twitter post by _fangirlsociety below.
Players have recently started to experience the love triangle between Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith all over again in Final Fantasy VII Remake, an update of the classic story that retells Team AVALANCHE’s adventures in Midgar. While the main plot of Final Fantasy VII Remake follows that of the original game for the most part, there are many clever twists on the tale that fans know by heart - and a timeline shattering twist at the very end that could cause the next installment of Final Fantasy VII Remake to go in a completely different direction altogether.
This could apply to Final Fantasy VII's love story as well, with fans already speculating on how the love triangle could play out in this new timeline. Only time will tell how the rest of Final Fantasy VII will unfold, so fans like The Batman star Robert Pattinson might find themselves torn between Tifa and Aerith all over again.
