The release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade on PS5 will have a DLC chapter starring Yuffie from FF7, but her content is still set in Midgar. Despite this, her DLC appears to add new areas to FF7 Remake, which will likely be restricted to Yuffie's storyline.
FF7 Remake was set entirely in Midgar, as it only adapts the first few hours of the original Final Fantasy 7. The story was expanded in order to fill out a full-length game, which included bringing in some characters who didn't appear until later in the story in FF7, like Sephiroth and Cait Sith. FF7 Remake also brought in characters from other entries in the Compilation of FF7, including the early version of Avalanche that fought the Turks in Before Crisis.
FF7 Remake: Intergrade has optional DLC which is bringing Yuffie from FF7 into the story. In FF7, the player couldn't encounter Yuffie until after they had ed through the Mythral Mine. Her exploits before this have never been revealed, so the creators of FF7 Remake have established that she snuck into Midgar in search of some ultimate Materia. This raises the question of whether the DLC will actually add new areas to FF7 Remake or if it will recycle the content that's already there?
FF7 Remake: The Darkness Beneath Midgar
The Yuffie DLC will add two chapters to FF7 Remake: Intergrade. Based on the footage that has been revealed so far, it seems that one chapter takes place after Cloud is separated from Avalanche at the end of Chapter 7, as Yuffie is spying on Barret and Tifa as they talk about losing Cloud. This part of the game will definitely reuse some locations, as the trailer shows Yuffie running around the slums. There is also a new outdoor dungeon, which has movement areas that are exclusive to Yuffie, as she can run across walls using her parkour skills. She will also face a new robotic boss enemy in this dungeon. This proves that the DLC in Intergrade will add some new areas, even if it doesn't appear to leave the boundaries of Midgar.
Yuffie encounters of Deepground from Dirge of Cerberus in the DLC as well. It's unclear where exactly this takes place, but it seems likely that it will happen in a new area of the Shinra Headquarters. This is all currently speculation, but it makes sense for the second Yuffie chapter to take place later in the game, and for her to sneak into the Shinra Headquarters while Avalanche is causing a distraction upstairs. Chances are, this section of the game will also be a mix of new and old areas. Players will know more this summer when the DLC is released alongside the PS5 version of the game.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade is coming to PlayStation 5 on June 10, 2021.
