Final Fantasy 7 Remake is one of the biggest games of 2020, and an ambitious reimagining of one of the most influential RPGs of all time. From a completely redesigned action combat system to new characters, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is practically a new game.
Of course, this is just the first part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project, only covering the events that happen in Midgar, roughly the first ten hours of the original game. Despite this, the game is comparable to the length of the average Final Fantasy title.
There are plenty of new details and sidequests added in, to make the Midgar section feel more robust and fleshed out. However, this obviously leaves a lot of fans curious as to how long it takes to beat the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
How Long Is the Final Fantasy 7 Remake?
Final Fantasy 7 Remake takes roughly 30-40 hours to complete on a first playthrough, based on playtime from both reviewers and consumers that were able to get the game early. Of course, this time can increase if players want to do all of the side content in the game. There are over 20 side missions in the game, an arena to fight in, and several other pieces of optional content. If players are looking to simply mainline the story, it'll be closer to that 30-hour mark. There's also extra time that can be spent leveling up characters and customizing Materia and equipment. This is fairly comparable to other mainline Final Fantasy titles; for example, Final Fantasy XV's main story takes roughly 20-30 hours to beat.
Does Final Fantasy 7 Remake Have a New Game Plus?
The good news is that Final Fantasy 7 Remake has quite a bit of content for fans to dive into after beating the game. There isn't a New Game Plus in the traditional sense, but beating the game unlocks a few different things. Hard mode unlocks as well as a chapter select, letting players jump into whatever part of the game they want to. There's also a battle simulator unlocked near the end of the game that holds some of the hardest boss battles, giving a few more challenges for players to undertake after the credits roll. Players can't start up a typical New Game Plus, but they can start a hard mode playthrough.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake releases on April 10 for PlayStation 4.
