With director Naoki Yoshida mentioned there was a secret reason behind all the recent FF9 love.

With all the evidence, it's less of a question of whether the FF9 remake exists and more of a question of when it will be revealed and when it is coming out. There was speculation that it would be seen during the Switch 2 reveal, but that didn't happen. Summer Game Fest is happening on June 6, and PlayStation and Square Enix have dropped major announcements there in the past. As the event is right before the official anniversary date of FF9, Summer Game Fest seems like the best place to announce a remake of Final Fantasy 9.
