Since the game released on March 20, 2020, players have caught a lot of fish in large number of fish that can be caught, and they show up at different times of the year.
For players who have set their island to be in the northern hemisphere, now is a great time for fishing because some especially big fish can be caught. In particular: sharks! The saw shark is one that players seeking to complete their collection will need to be on the lookout for.
Seeing the Saw Shark in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
One of the classic images of sharks is a fin sticking out of the water, which Animal Crossing: New Horizons uses as well, to the benefit of players. While there are many fish of different shapes and sizes in the game, there are only a select few than have shadows with visible fins, and the saw shark is no different.
For clarity, sharks can only be found in the ocean. Thankfully, sharks that live on land do not exist. The saw shark can be caught during the months of June through September in the northern hemisphere. Southern hemisphere players can find saw sharks during December through March. When they are in season, saw sharks will only appear during the hours of 4 PM - 9 AM.
As the fins are so easily visible, players can simply run along the island beaches until they spot a shadow with a fin. They may not catch the saw shark on their first try, but fortunately, the other sharks are valuable, and among other things, can be sold for a nice amount of bells. Well, the suckerfish will not net the player many bells, but then again it isn’t a shark.
The saw shark itself can be sold to Timmy or Tommy in Nook’s cranny for 12,000 bells, or C.J. will buy it for even more at 18,000 bells, though he does not show up often. For perspective, the most valuable tier of fish in the game are sold for 15,000 bells at Nook’s Cranny, or 22,500 for C.J. Yes, the saw shark is a nice reward.
If players are having trouble catching a saw shark, they can craft bait from manila clams, and try throwing the bait into the water from the pier until they see a fin. Sharks can be caught in other areas, but since there are some fish that can only be caught from the pier, why not kill two birds with one stone? Or two fish, as the case may be?
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch.
