Fire Country season 1 finale beautifully set up tough times ahead for its protagonist Bode, but potential Fire Country spinoffs can only be considered once the CBS drama’s worldbuilding is more secure. Fire Country season 1 solidly introduced the Leone family, their struggles, and how Bode was able to find his place at Edgewater, doing his best at the Three Rock Fire Camp and rebuilding the relationships that were destroyed after he left the town, reeling from his sister Riley’s death. However, the Fire Country season 1 finale also set up Bode’s battles, as choosing to sacrifice himself so that Freddy could be free landed him back in prison.

Bode’s confession at the end of Fire Country season 1, causing him to simultaneously lose Three Rock and his family’s belief in him, hinted at Fire Country season 2 having to initially focus on Bode’s fight against Sleeper and work to regain his loved ones’ backing. CBS chief George Cheeks’ hopes about Fire Country possibly starting out another NCIS-like franchise based on the firefighting drama season 1’s success hint at an exciting future for Fire Country. However, that shouldn’t be the focus of Fire Country season 2, as its debut season barely scratched the surface of Cal Fire and Three Rock’s inner workings.

If Fire Country Season 2 Is Successful, Season 3 Can Set Up A Spinoff

Cheeks’ comment made a point of highlighting how the Fire Country spinoff ideas don’t necessarily have to happen soon, preferring to focus on establishing good ones “when they’re ready” rather than something that can happen in the next year. This could tie a potential Fire Country spinoff even more to Fire Country season 2’s success, making it imperative that Fire Country season 2 continues its season 1’s achievements. However, this would work even story-wise, as Fire Country season 1 finale’s ending clearly set up Bode’s difficult journey to regain his family’s help and , which was somewhat withdrawn once Bode had to it the false and say he relapsed.

Were Fire Country season 3 to happen, a backdoor pilot linking to a Fire Country spinoff would not only guarantee audiences knew more about the firefighting drama’s world but also mirror the setup of many other popular franchises. Indeed, CBS’ own NCIS season 6 eventually set up its first spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles, and its second spinoff NCIS: New Orleans was introduced via backdoor pilot only in NCIS season 11. Both spinoffs benefited from NCIS’ exemplary worldbuilding in the seasons that preceded them, and Fire Country doing something similar could guarantee the exciting setup of a solid franchise.

A Fire Country Spinoff Could Work Sooner If Key Characters Changed Scenery

While Fire Country season 1 didn’t hint at any character willing to change scenery or career to warrant the creation of a Fire Country spinoff, that doesn’t mean that couldn’t happen in Fire Country season 2. After all, Grey’s Anatomy introduced this same way Private Practice and Station 19, whose successful connection to the parent series hinged on Addison Montgomery’s move to LA and Ben Warren’s career change. Fire Country’s central characters seemed much in love with firefighting, but that doesn’t mean Fire Country season 2 can’t, for example, follow the newly-released Freddy in his new life as a free man, which doesn’t necessarily have to involve firefighting, unlike Bode’s.
