While each playable character in Fire Emblem Engage is given an initial starting profession, players can change their units' Class if they feel the squad member would be more valuable or perform better in other areas. For instance, Clanne, the Steward for Alear, has Mage as his Starting Class, enabling him to utilize the Mystical Battle Style in combat. However, it is possible to change Clanne to a Sword Fighter, Hero, or other Class as players see fit. This Class flexibility in the game's mechanics allows for a wide range of strategies or roleplay when facing enemies on the battleground.

Before players can begin changing their units' Classes in Fire Emblem Engage, there are several prerequisites players must bear in mind. First, players must reach Chapter 8: The Kingdom of Might in the main campaign to unlock the ability to have characters swap their Classes.

Next, players can use the Plus Button on their Joy-Con to open the pause menu, after which they must navigate to the Inventory screen and select the characters whose Class they wish to change. The "Change Class" option will be at the bottom of each unit's drop-down menu.

Changing Classes in Fire Emblem Engage

Menu Screen for Changing Clanne Character Class in Fire Emblem Engage

After accessing the "Change Class" screen in Fire Emblem Engage, players can see the three primary requirements for each Class. These requirements include Required Level, Required Proficiency, and Item Cost. For instance, if players wanted to change Clanne to a Paladin, the Required Level is 10+ of a Base Class, and the Item Cost is a Master Seal.

On the other hand, those swapping a unit to another Base Class will need only a Second Seal. According to YouTuber Unpunk 4K, players can reset a character's Class to default by leveling up the unit to Level 20 and using a Second Seal.

To get Seals, players must visit the Item Shop in Somniel during Chapter 8. Keep in mind that the number of Seals available is limited but periodically refreshes to prevent players from excessively swapping their units' Classes. As noted above, Required Proficiency is another requirement that players must consider when changing Classes in Fire Emblem Engage. Each Class will have different Proficiency, depending on the weapons or abilities used.

To unlock new Proficiencies for units, players must raise the level of their Bonds and pair them with appropriate Emblems in Fire Emblem Engage. To summarize, players must reach Chapter 8 to buy Seals, which can be used to change a unit's Class as long as they have attained an adequate level and weapon proficiency.
