If you've been playing through The First Berserker: Khazan wondering when exactly you'll get to use the Blacksmith, you're not alone. The Blacksmith takes a while to unlock, and you'll have to take out the first five bosses in the game in order to unlock the mission that opens access to the Blacksmith. That means you might have a few tough fights to go before you can finally start crafting the armor sets at the Blacksmith. Depending on how far you've made it into the game, it's likely you have some armor set scrolls sitting in your inventory already.
Before you get to unlock the Blacksmith, Khazan has to defeat Yetuga, the first major boss in the game, and every other boss up to Aratra, the spider boss and fifth major enemy in the game. By the time you reach Aratra, you will have defeated some of the toughest bosses in the game so far, including the Viper boss in Khazan. These are all pretty challenging encounters, and while it would be extremely useful to have access to a Blacksmith before facing off against them, you're going to have to tough it out on your own at first.
How To Unlock The Blacksmith In The First Berserker: Khazan
Take Down Bearius & Complete The Blacksmith's Heirloom Quest
To unlock the Blacksmith, you'll need to defeat all the aforementioned bosses, but unfortunately, that's just the first step. Aside from Yetuga and Viper, you'll also have to defeat the Blade Phantom, that angry voice in Khazan's head, as well as Volbaino, and finally Aratra. After defeating Aratra, you'll be able to pick up a side mission in a new area called the Spider's Tomb. You will have to complete the Blacksmith's Heirloom bonus mission to unlock the Blacksmith, whose name is Qazumaka. Qazumaka will need his hammer back, and it's up to Khazan to track it down.
"Once you defeat Bearius, you'll be able to grab the Blacksmith's Hammer and finally head to the forge for Qazumaka to craft or break down gear."
This mission requires venturing through the Spider's Tomb and facing yet another tough boss, Bearius, a giant bear enemy that gave me flashbacks to the bear enemies found in Elden Ring. Bearius is about as difficult as you'd expect from the bosses in The First Berserker: Khazan. Once you defeat Bearius, you'll be able to grab the Blacksmith's Hammer and finally head to the forge for Qazumaka to craft gear. It's a long road to the Blacksmith, but absolutely worth it, and you'll breathe a sigh of relief now that you can craft your own armor.
How The Blacksmith Works
Craft Armor Sets From Scrolls You Collect Throughout Your Journey
You can find the Blacksmith underneath the stairs in The Crevice, and you'll be able to craft armor from the Armor Set Scrolls you've collected from various elite enemies, exploration, or from major bosses you've taken down so far. You can track down rare crafting materials by defeating certain bosses over again. Otherwise, crafting is relatively straightforward in The First Berserker: Khazan, and you'll be able to craft entire armor sets based on your preferred playstyle, weapon choices, and stat investment to fine-tune your Khazan build.

The First Berserker Khazan Has One Unique Feature Every Soulslike Is Missing
The First Berserker: Khazan has a unique feature that lets you earn XP and Skill Points for fighting bosses, even if you end up dying in the process.
Overall, unlocking the Blacksmith in the First Berserker: Khazan takes a little bit of work, requiring you to complete a large portion of the early game and defeat the first five major bosses, as well as killing Bearius. Persistence pays off, however, and once you have access to the Blacksmith, your options for better gear are much more accessible and straightforward. If you're struggling to get past some of the early game bosses in The First Berserker: Khazan, consider switching up your build or reinvesting stat points based on the best weapon at your disposal.
