New animatronics for Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic, the next game in the smash-hit indie horror franchise, has been revealed at the February 12, 2025, PlayStation State of Play. Once a simple indie horror game with a solo dev and a dream, FNAF has since grown into a global phenomenon, with a feature film, ten mainline entries, and an eleventh on the way. Secret of the Mimic was first revealed in a 40-second teaser back in August, but at today's State of Play, it got its first real trailer, alongside a release date.

Among other details, the new trailer reveals that Secret of the Mimic will star an all-new cast of animatronics. Multiple are shown in the trailer, but the main cast appears to include a dog, an elephant, a pointy-hatted gnome, and a human girl, but there are several more glimpses at other animatronics throughout the 80-second preview. The trailer also provides a brand-new look at Jackie, the jack-in-the-box animatronic previously confirmed for Secret of the Mimic, alongside a release date of June 13, 2025.

Everything We Know About Secret Of The Mimic

Story, Gameplay, & New Animatronics

This meshes with much of what we already know about Secret of the Mimic, which was rumored to be a sort of prequel to earlier FNAF games. It'll explore the origin story of The Mimic, who was the main antagonist of Secret of the Mimic was scheduled for release in April.

As the narration in the trailer also reveals, it'll focus on Fazbear Entertainment's early days, as the player character explores an abandoned warehouse belonging to Edwin Murray, an animatronic designer who's gone missing. Murray is known, from previous entries, to be The Mimic's creator, so his warehouse is likely to contain details on the mysterious endoskeleton's origins - hence the "Secret of the Mimic" title. The player's goal will be to find and seize control of the Mimic, returning it to their supervisors at Fazbear Entertainment.

Freddy Fazbear has always been one of many killer animatronics, but this game gave him a friendly personality for fans new and old to love.

Players will explore the facility freely, as in Security Breach, searching for answers as they dodge deadly animatronics. At one point, the player is seen throwing a wind-up mouse toy like a grenade, probably one of several gadgets they'll use to avoid detection and make it out of the facility alive.

Five Nights At Freddy's Just Keeps On Growing

FNAF Has Come A Long Way

Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic provides a look at the expansive franchise from a whole new angle, and promises lots of new lore on some of its most mysterious characters. It's been a joy to see this franchise grow from the very beginning, to see it balloon from a two-hour, four-button indie horror game to a massive worldwide success. The body of lore just keeps on growing, as does the gameplay. Free roaming FNAF games were a generational evolution, and I can't wait to see how the mechanics are developed further in Secret of the Mimic.

It's clear that FNAF has somewhat outgrown its original cast of animatronics, and so I'm glad to see it introducing new ones. The designs, with their bulging eyes and crooked teeth, are as terrifying as anything else the series has ever put out, and with their intrinsic connections to the Mimic - one of the strangest and most important figures in FNAF lore - they're sure to become classics before long. Thankfully, fans won't have to wait long to meet them, as Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic's June 13 release date is only a few short months away.
