Superman & Lois, will premiere next year along with the new seasons of the rest of the Arrowverse.

Yesterday, Flash fans received a shock when news broke that Sawyer, who played Ralph Dibny/the Elongated Man, had been fired following the reemergence of Gustin shared a brief statement on social media and said he was "shocked, saddened and angry when I saw the tweets," and that "Words matter."

Amell is the latest Arrowverse star to share their thoughts on Sawyer's firing, though his response is to simply share his of Gustin. While sharing a screenshot of Gustin's post, Amell wrote that he was "Proud to have worked with him," and that Gustin is "one of the most thoughtful guys I know." You can see Amell's full comments in the space below.

Both Gustin and Amell's posts include the official statement given by The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace, wherein he commits to making the show a more inclusive environment. "In order to facilitate this, I will continue to find Black and Brown writers, directors, actors and producers of all genders to help tell FLASH stories," Wallace wrote. This statement, along with Sawyer's firing, seemed to reassure fans that those within the Arrowverse are dedicated to promoting diversity. In some instances, the Arrowverse has been praised for its inclusion of characters of color and of the LGBTQ+ community. However, as evidenced by this situation with The Flash, there is always more work that can be done.

Sawyer's dismissal comes just weeks after the Arrowverse lost another key player. Ruby Rose, who played Kate Kane on Batwoman, will be exiting the franchise ahead of season 2, and currently, the producers are planning on creating a new character to replace her. Rose's exit initially seemed to be her decision, though later comments instead suggested it was a mutual move. The circumstances regarding Rose's departure is far different than Sawyer's, but they both demonstrate some of the challenges facing Batwoman and The Flash at the start of their next seasons. Stay tuned for future updates regarding both shows.
