Warning! Spoilers ahead for Crime Syndicate #5!
DC's evil Emerald Knight's origin revealed.
The whole reason for the miniseries existing is to delve into the depths of these twisted versions of popular heroes. The Crime Syndicate is the reverse, evil Justice League, situated on a darkened version of Earth. The very concept is highly interesting as fans of comic books have long wondered how people with such powers can take such a dark turn that completely opposes the choices of heroes like Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and The Flash, among others.
In Crime Syndicate #5 by Andy Schmidt, Kieran McKeown, Dexter Vines, Bryan Hitch, and Alex Sinclair, Johnny Quick's origins of how he became an evil speedster will be revealed. Issue five's preview will focus on the evil Flash, seeing how he became so distant from the image of DC's normal Flash. Just like Barry Allen, Johnny was struck by lightning and gained powers. However, in his origin, he isn't the only one struck by that lightning. His girlfriend, Atomica, also gains powers and they become a criminal duo who later the Crime Syndicate on Earth-3. The duo, Johnny Quick and Atomica, are featured on the cover art for issue five. His origin issue will likely follow along with the formula of the other backup stories so far. As the Crime Syndicate's resident speedster, he often puts up a strong fight against the Flash. However, that's not the focus in this miniseries. Although the Legion of Justice is coming, they do not possess the same qualities as Earth-0's Justice League . The focus here is solely on the backgrounds of these criminals and what made them who they are today.
Fans will be excited to get to know this version of Johnny Quick much better, as this issue promises to reveal everything that's important to him. With the Crime Syndicate taking center stage, it looks like they could be visited by DC's main heroes from Earth-0 sometime soon. Could it be possible that the Crime Syndicate links into any of their future plans? Currently, DC Comics is planning the next year and beyond in comics, with many books intertwining. Readers will have to wait patiently to see if these versions of characters like evil Flash, Superman, and more will crossover.
