While the original solicitation teased a few new friends, writer Jeremy Adams is revealing who will be ing Irey and Jai West for a night to . On Twitter, Adams posted art from Serg Acuña that shows Damian Wayne Robin and Jon Kent Superboy from their Super Sons era flying in with their usual grit and determination. While Adams was mum on the details, fans were rejoicing seeing the iconic duo reunited for another adventure.
The Flash Twins Are Bringing the Super Sons Back
Of all the things to come out of DC’s Rebirth era, the Super Sons are undoubtedly one of the most beloved. Modeled after the hypothetical, Silver Age stories that involved Superman and Batman’s respective sons teaming up, Super Sons was a title that brought the unlikely pair of Damian Wayne and Jon Kent together. Though they were the complete opposite in of personality, Robin and Superboy formed a powerful bond that strongly resonated with fans. Unfortunately, the era came to a close when Jon ventured to space and returned nearly grown, ready to take on the Superman mantle.
While the Super Sons haven’t been active in a while, fans have seen reunions of Damian and Jon periodically. Super Sons specials set in the past, non-canonical short stories, and even a Super Sons movie that The Flash writer Jeremy Adams wrote. Plucking the two out of their proper time for a new adventure might not be a return in the way fans were hoping for, but it is a chance to see the beloved team interact with the current generation of kid heroes.
The Super Sons' Last Chance for a New Adventure?
Some fans feel that the end for the Super Sons came too early when Jon was taken to space by his grandfather. While there’s nothing that can undo that short of another crisis, there’s nothing stopping the timeline manipulations of the youngest Flash Family from bringing the team back for another romp. With the current canon having Jon as Superman and Damian traveling the world, it’s highly unlikely that fans will get the full return of the Super Sons they’d like. But a creative application of Irey and Jai’s powers could give fans one last experience of the fan-favorite duo. Readers can see the return of the Super Sons in The Flash #797, on sale April 18th.
