The Flash Family's Max Mercury Knows How to Navigate the Speed Force

Flash and Max Mercury in the Spooky Layer DC

The last few months have been trying for every speedster. Intent on destroying time, what the Arc Angles considered to be the source of all suffering, the cosmic beings manipulated Wally and his entire family by isolating the Flash and manipulating reality to make it seem like speedsters were destabilizing the DC Universe. While Wally's loved ones were able to figure out what was going on, Wally wasn't as lucky. After spending too much time in the Gallery of Moments, West's memories faded, making Flash the perfect weapon to deliver the Crown of Thawnes straight into the Speed Force.

While every other speedster knows how to vibrate at different frequencies to travel to different dimensions, only Max knows how to navigate to the Speed Force's highest point. It's not exactly surprising given how Max has always approached the phenomenon with a more Zen mindset. He doesn't see it so much as science as he does a force of nature and given the fluid nature of the Speed Force, that may be the best way of dealing with such a dynamic energy. Max rarely takes the reins, but his metaphysical approach could be the key to saving the Flash.

Max Mercury's Unconventional Ways are What Will Save Wally West

It's not that Max understands the Speed Force better than the Flash or any other speedster. He's just always had a different outlook when it comes to the phenomenon and that's given him insight the rest of the Flash Family just don't have. While his powers don't always come into play at crucial moments, Max Mercury is the hero the speedsters need right now. They need Wally so that they can stop the Crown of Thawnes and stop the Arc Angles from destroying the timeline. But to save the Flash, they'll need Max Mercury's more 'far-out' way of looking at things.

The Flash #12 is available on August 28th from DC Comics.

Barry Allen as The Flash Running in Comic Art

The Flash is the superhero name given to the DC Comics character who utilizes unparalleled speed tied to a dimensional power known as the "speed force" to overwhelm their opposition. Premiering in 1939, the original Flash arrived as Jay Garrick. Still, it would be superseded by Barry Allen in popularity and featured status, but the Flash is one character that has met many of their alternate selves. The character is typically seen as a part of the Justice League in nearly all incarnations.
