Spoiler Warning for The Flash #763
DC's The Flash a.k.a. Barry Allen is one of the fastest DCU speedsters with his ability to bend the Speed Force to his will as well as time-travel. And although the Flash's speed is not a mystery, the significance of his Flash ring is. But that mystery is finally revealed in The Flash #763 as he tells his Iris West why it's really so important to him.
Over the years, there have been many renditions of Barry's iconic costume due to the fact that there are alternate reality versions of the Flash - and some of these costumes people have come secret history might the ring possess? A question that is answered towards the end of Kevin Shinick, Clayton Henry, Bernard Chang, and Inhyuk Lee's comic The Flash #763.
After having an altercation with the relentless villain known as the Trickster, Iris simply asks him "So what exactly is so special about the ring? What's the mystery metal?" Before diving into the significance of the ring's history, he tells Iris that it's funny how so many people believe the new metal he's used to create it is so special - when in reality, the new metal is just meant to ensure that his costume is protected. Then, he begins to tell her that it's the gold that the ring is encased in which makes it so special.
He continues by telling Iris the ring is a constant reminder as to why he puts on the costume daily and to help him , it's in memory of his mother and father - two people he's always held close to his heart. The murder of his mother and his father's unjust incarceration has always been like two tremendous weights thrown onto his back. And to help ease the pain of his suffering, Barry forges his mother and father's wedding rings together to make his own ring - which ultimately serves as a symbol of hope for him. Especially, during the times when his world is being shrouded in chaos and darkness.
This is not the first time The Flash revealed a secret to his beloved Iris, but it's evident as to why he's willing to do so - he knows deep down he can trust her with his secrets and thoughts in general. Which is not always something a superhero can do in a world that's riddled with supervillains just waiting for the perfect moment to strike and manipulate one's weakness.
