Ever the trendsetter, the DC Comics is going all out on celebrating the iconic hero with a series of variant covers that simply must be seen.

DC is preparing to honor Superman over the next several months with its "Summer of Superman" initiative and this May, the publisher is kicking things into high gear. DC Comics has just revealed a series of Supersmash variants that show heroes in costumes modeled after the Big Blue Boy Scout.

No hero takes advantage of this series more than the Flash does, who prominently appears on the covers of Justice League Unlimited #7, Superman #26, and, of course, The Flash #21. Wally gets three wildly different Superman-like costumes, but Flash pulls them all off in this creative series of variants.

It's an exciting time to be a Superman fan. Ever since the trailer for James Gunn's new Superman movie debuted, hype has shot through the roof. Thankfully, DC Comics is capitalizing on this excitement with a new initiative designed to get everyone, both new fans and old, to engage with Superman through comic books. The "Summer of Superman" initiative begins in April and will include a swath of exciting new things, from new directions in DC's current comics to new ongoing titles. And, of course, the publisher is pumping out lots of variant covers to tribute DC Comics' greatest hero.

It's really cool to see the Flash get so many different outfits in this variant series and each one has something going for it. Justice League Unlimited's Flash looks nice and polished. The Flash's Wally has that cool cape billowing in the breeze. Even the Superman variant has Wally donning the infamous red trunks on his outfit. But more than that, it's just awesome seeing as many heroes as possible switch up their looks for more Superman-inspired ones. Maybe it's not something fans will actually see in canon, but no one can deny how cool the Justice League looks here.

While the Justice League is more than just Superman, it’s nice to see all of them come together and honor Clark Kent. He’s the definitive superhero and an inspiration that many heroes have modeled themselves after. Barry Allen might be Wally West’s biggest hero, but even the Scarlet Speedster recognizes Superman’s monumental influence (perhaps that’s why he’s featured on three covers). Superman is a great hero and this is a pivotal moment for him, so it’s nice to see his allies like the Flash rally around him and show how inspirational he is.

Justice League Unlimited #7, The Flash #21, and Superman #26 are all available this May from DC Comics.
