In Flash experiences a dimensional shift, an increasingly common occurrence since his last battle with the Mirror Master. When talking about changes to the Speed Force with Mister Terrific, Wally experiences a severe fluctuation that sees other-dimensional beings begging for assistance and warning him of the Uncoiled.
Gorilla Grodd and his underlings attack the city again and when Flash arrives to stop the sinister simians, a heroic Indigo Streak appears to lend a hand. Unfortunately, Grodd captures the would-be hero, a young man named Chad, and manipulates the energy within him. Chad is turned inside out as the energy warps around him and a gateway to the Speed Force opens up, revealing a sinister-looking being covered in spikes, the Uncoiled that the Flash was warned about.
The Uncoiled is the Dark Threat Lurking in Flash's Speed Force
The Flash might be the Fastest Man Alive, but his powers have been acting seriously erratic lately. During a date with his wife, Wally fought Mirror Master, who had upgraded his powers with an atomic mirror. Flash shattered the mirror and apprehended his nemesis. Unfortunately, doing so put a twist on the Scarlet Speedster's power. Now Wally experiences 'glitches' that allow him to peer into hidden layers of reality, exposing numerous sinister threats in other-dimensional spaces.
Even before Flash's powers started going on the fritz, the Speed Force has always held secrets from the Flash. Even Wally notes that he doesn't completely understand how it works, but he trusts that the mysterious phenomenon is a "force for good". However, the existence of the Uncoiled seems to put that belief in question. Granted, readers don't see much of the Uncoiled beyond their appearance at the end of The Flash's first issue. But the spikes on their body look absolutely sinister, and the voices begging Flash for help sounded completely panicked. The debut of this new villain could change everything the Flash knows about the Speed Force.
The Uncoiled Reveals the Dark Side of the Speed Force
The only thing readers really know about the Speed Force is that it's like a force of nature. It's not inherently good or bad, it just is. While most of the beings blessed with speed from the otherworldly force have been on the side of the angels, that doesn't mean that everything lurking within the speedster energies is good as well. Sure, we don't know much about the Uncoiled and they could wind up surprising the Flash. But as it stands now, Wally West is coming face to face with horrors he never thought possible in the Speed Force. The Flash #1 is on sale now.
