WARNING: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Titans #1!!!The Flash can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to death. Wally West is arguably the most powerful out of all the DC speedsters, as proven in his recent fight against the Fraction in the "One-Minute War" from The Flash #796. Now, a mysterious force has seemingly killed Wally West, but the question remains: How long before the Flash is back on his feet?

The long-awaited debut of Titans #1 by Tom Taylor and Nicola Scott lives up to the hype from the start of the issue. This brand-new DC lineup series is meant to establish the Titans as the next generation of heroes of Earth after the Justice League’s shocking disbandment. However, as the Titans prepare for their big moving day at the new Titans Tower, one of their key , the Flash, is nowhere to be found. That’s because someone has just shot Wally West in the chest, and he only has mere seconds to say his goodbyes before the bullet reaches his heart.

The Flash Saves His Final Words For His Family

Flash Titans 1-1

Before Wally West seemingly dies from a gunshot to the chest, the speedster races against time to see his loving family. Quickly accepting his fate, the Flash does what he can to protect his loved ones in his dying moments. Wally speeds back home to his wife Linda Park and children, Irey and Jay, but only for a second. His last words to them being, “I love you,” since he realizes it’s too late to tell them the full story. Right away, Linda understands that Wally is in serious danger given the urgency of his words. But fear not, this is not the Flash’s first brush with death.

If there’s one thing the Flash family is known for, it’s cheating death on multiple occasions. Many fans are familiar with Barry Allen’s iconic “death” in 1985’s Crisis on Infinite Earths only to return from his Speed Force prison in 2008’s Final Crisis event. However, Wally West has survived death more than once in his superhero career. Wally has had his heart stopped, he's been erased from the timeline, and he even had a heart attack. Most recently, he escaped death during the “One Minute War” arc after being disintegrated by the Fraction; he was brought back thanks to Gold Beetle and the power of the Speed Force. Basically, there’s no way the Flash won’t find his way back to the land of living, and he wouldn’t leave his friends and family without an important message to send.

The Titans must pick up where the Flash left off and honor his memory until he returns. Before Wally succumbs to his gunshot wound, he leaves the Titans with a message on the Titans Tower computer: “Solve it.” The Titans understand as the sole protectors of the world they must continue on as heroes, but they won’t leave their friend’s murder unsolved. The Flash proves his true worth as a hero by using his abilities to ensure the safety of his loved ones and best friends.
