Summary
- FNAF: Security Breach - Ruin DLC introduces new characters with connections to the founding of Fazbear Entertainment.
- The Mimic, a character in the DLC, originated from the FNAF novels as a harmless robot but has developed a violent and killer instinct due to its programming and the grief of its creator.
- Helpi, another character in Ruin, is an AI virtual assistant possibly influenced by Glitchtrap, and there are hints that both Helpi and The Mimic work together to deceive and manipulate the protagonist, Cassie. The DLC sets up potential sequels to explore their relationship further.
Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach - Ruin is a free DLC that takes place a few years after the base game, and it's no surprise that it features new characters. However, even new characters can have connections to old characters in the FNAF universe, and that seems to be the case this time as well. Despite being new, two characters introduced in Ruin could connect back to the founding of Fazbear Entertainment.
FNAF: Security Breach Ruin follows Cassie as she enters the Pizzaplex in search of Gregory, who sent her a message requesting help. Of course, the Pizzaplex is filled with animatronic threats, some of which players have seen in the base game. However, characters in FNAF have a tendency to show up in different forms across games, making their past identities unclear at first glance.
The Mimic Is From FNAF Novels
The Mimic is locked behind concrete and looks pretty rough when Cassie frees it in FNAF: Security Breach's Ruin DLC, and that's because this animatronic has a long history. It appears in the Tales from the Pizzaplex novels Lally's Game and Nexie as a creation of Edwin Murray, who was so busy with his work that he created a robot to play with his young son, David. The Mimic was programmed to copy David's actions, which earned the robot its name and kept David entertained by copying his actions and learning from him.
But a robot that was harmless and made to be a friend to a child sounds far different from The Mimic in Ruin that chases after Cassie with the intent to kill her. In short, David ends up dying young because his ball rolls into the road, and he's hit by a car trying to retrieve it. Edwin is overcome with grief at the loss of his young son, and The Mimic acting like David, from whom it learned its behaviors, infuriates him. As a result, Edwin attacks The Mimic and leaves it in a broken state, but due to its programming, it learns the violent behavior of Edwin and a killer instinct is added to its code.
Helpi In FNAF: Security Breach Ruin Is An AI Possibly Influenced By Glitchtrap
Helpi appears in Ruin after Cassie puts on the Vanny Mask, which players of Security Breach might recognize as the mask that Glitchtrap used to control Vanessa. The mask being left behind implies that Vanessa being freed is part of the FNAF: Security Breach canon ending, and that could mean that Glitchtrap has lost his influence on it. However, it isn't outside the realm of possibility that Glitchtrap, The Mimic, or both have a measure of control over Helpi that they use to give Cassie directions and help her to gain her trust.
Overall, not a lot of information is given about Helpi aside from him being a virtual assistant, but his design and colors are interesting for players who've been keeping up with the complicated lore of FNAF. His design has a fair amount of purple, which is a color that is often associated with William Afton, and players can see him as the Purple Guy in the minigames from previous titles in the franchise. Since Glitchtrap is essentially an AI version of William Afton, it's possible that Helpi is still affected by Glitchtrap, and The Mimic could be as well considering they work together to get Cassie to free it.
The Mimic And Helpi Are Separate Entities In FNAF: Security Breach Ruin
One theory is that The Mimic and Helpi are the same, but RyeToast on YouTube points out a particular detail in Ruin that makes this seem unlikely. When Gregory and Helpi implement a block for The Entity, Gregory bickers with Helpi and says that it was his effort that took care of The Entity and Helpi would be able to do that on its own. The Mimic would have to be way more advanced to fake arguing with itself for the purpose of fooling Cassie.
The Mimic has learned plenty of information from humans because Edwin from the FNAF novels designed it to do so, but to have a fake argument with itself to create the illusion of being separate from Helpi seems beyond its capabilities. At the very least, it would need to learn that behavior from somebody, but that still doesn't feel like the right answer. While these characters being different entities makes more sense, it doesn't answer every question surrounding them.
Ruin Sets Up A FNAF: Security Breach Sequel
The endings for FNAF: Security Breach - Ruin leave players uncertain about Cassie's fate, and they're perfect for setting up a sequel. There are still unanswered questions about who Helpi is, and if the Glitchtrap theory is correct, then players could see him as an antagonist once more. Plus, the endings prepare an excuse for Gregory to return to the Pizzaplex to help Cassie since it seems that she doesn't manage to escape in any ending, and Gregory knows she's there.
It also seems like Vanessa escaped with Gregory, and both characters know how dangerous it would be if Glitchtrap is freed and able to leave the building, and they probably realize that The Mimic is a threat as well even if it's not affected considering it was able to use Gregory's voice to lure Cassie into helping it. In combination with its violent behavior and clear intent to hurt Cassie, The Mimic can't be allowed out of the Pizzaplex since it would be an obvious threat to innocent lives. It already has a lengthy list of victims in the FNAF novels, and Gregory has experience dealing with killer animatronics.
The Mimic and Helpi are new, but players who read the FNAF novels may at least one of these additions to the game. Ruin gives some information for each one, but not enough to know how or why they started working together aside from the possibility of The Mimic being set free, although that doesn't seem to benefit Helpi unless there's more fueling their alliance than the idea of freedom. However, the ambiguous endings create an opportunity for players to learn more about The Mimic, Helpi, and the relationship between them in a sequel or at least another DLC set after Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach - Ruin.
