The latest Fortnite update arrives soon, bringing with it an unlikely collaboration with an anime that's over two decades old. The battle royale title is frequently updated with new collaborations, items, skins, and quality of life upgrades and the next update is no different. The Chapter 6, Season 2 update will be titled "Lawless" and will be themed around outlaws.

The update will bring plenty of fun new content to the popular title, including two aspiring hip-hop artists who think they're a "big dill," reveals the Fortnite website. But the biggest surprise in the season is a collaboration with the 2001 anime Cowboy Bebop. The collaboration will begin on March 1, with some items to be released in the shop a few days earlier, on February 28.

Cowboy Bebop is a sci-fi anime that follows a space outlaw and his crew on their many misadventures. The title is often referred to as a "Space Western," and fits the lawless outlaw theme of the update to a T. The collaboration with Fortnite brings two of the show's most iconic and instantly recognizable characters into the game as outfits. Starting February 28, players will be able to buy the Spike Spiegel Outfit and Faye Valentine Outfit from the Fortnite Shop.

In addition to the outfits, Fortnite fans will have a chance to play through a limited-time event and unlock Bonus Goals. Completing the Cowboy Bebop quests will earn experience for these additional goals and unlock the Cowboy Bebop Wrap and Bebop Legends Loading Screen. These collab quests will be available to complete from March 1 until March 18.

Cowboy Bebop s Fortnite's Long Line Of Anime Collaborations

Cowboy Bebop isn't the first anime to get the Fortnite skin treatment. The game is no stranger to collaborations with popular anime, and previous collabs have brought characters and outfits from Attack on Titan, Dandandan, Kukutsu Kaisen, Naruto, and a number of other beloved franchises. Fortnite has even done a collaboration with the beloved anime virtual singer Hatsune Miku.

Despite these previous collabs, I'm a little surprised to see Cowboy Bebop the ranks of Fortnite skins. Despite being a very well-known anime, it never reached the same level of popularity as Naruto or Attack on Titan, or most of the other anime collaborations. These outfits would be more popular with an older crowd, and maybe that's the point.

It's possible that this fun new pack is meant to play on player nostalgia, as Fortnite continues to look back on the past through rose-tinted glasses. Then again, Fortnite has also done a collab with Mariah Carey, so maybe the Cowboy Bebop event isn't the oddest collaboration the game has had.
