There are now two different classes of weapons in Fortnite: mechanical and primal. Whether players opt to use the traditional mechanical weapons or live on the wild side with the new primal weapons, there are some pretty clear differences between the two craftable Fortnite weapon classes.
With the beginning of Season 6, Fortnite has introduced a brand-new crafting system. Players are able to collect mechanical gears and bones that are used in combination with simple makeshift weapons to craft stronger weapons. The game's traditional gun selection has remained in the form of mechanical weapons, but a new series of primal counterparts has also been added. While all of these weapons are viable and thrive in proper situations, there are some notable differences between the two types.
The biggest difference between Fortnite's mechanical and primal weapons comes down to accuracy. When players stop moving while using mechanical weapons, the aiming reticle restricts to a single point where the first bullet is guaranteed to land before weapon bloom begins to occur. This first-shot accuracy mechanic does not apply to primal weapons, which have a static reticle that never changes. While primal weapons like the SMG thrive in close-quarters situations as a result of a much more consistently concentrated shot, they aren't nearly as accurate as mechanical guns at longer ranges. The pump shotgun has also returned to the game as a mechanical weapon, while Fortnite's new primal shotgun has replaced the tactical shotgun, firing two shots with each pull of the trigger. Snipers have been replaced with bows, which are handled entirely different from the rest of the weapons.
Fortnite Season 6 Bows Can Be Mechanical Or Primal
Unlike the other weapons, the basic functions of Fortnite's bows remain the same, whether they're mechanical or primal. However, the purpose of each bow can be radically different, depending on which type of bow it is. When combining a mechanical bow with standard and shockwave grenades, players can craft an explosive bow or one whose arrows create a shockwave effect. And with a primal bow, players are able to create flaming bows with gas tanks or fireflies, as well as use stink sacs to craft a bow that creates a cloud of gas, damaging any enemies inside of it. Bows are a terrific utility weapon in Fortnite Season 6 and can be used in several different ways, depending on which kind of bow players manage to find or craft within any given game.
While the weapon system is initially a bit overwhelming, it's been an interesting change to Fortnite. Depending on several factors that can differ from game to game, players have a pretty wide variety of tools they can work with. Dropping in a location like Boney Burbs may push the player towards a more primal-based loadout, whereas Risky Reels allows for a more mechanical-based loadout. Interest in the system will likely fade over time, but the introduction of survivalist mechanics has been a lot of fun to mess around with and has given Fortnite Season 6 a distinct feel from the rest of Chapter 2.
